Anyone who murders people on the strength of the cartoon, claiming offence as justification, are in my opinion, beyond description

I've read some rubbish on here over the years(and I've posted some) but to attempt to rationalise this act by some posters is beyond belief.

I don't think I'll bother reading the thread then mate as I will probably end up calling someone a spineless fucking maggot, and end up banned. I sure hope that anyone that has expressed these attitudes doesn't die in a firey crash on there way home.

If it is used as a deliberate, considered act of provocation, which it was, then it is exactly that.
When the Jyllands Posten newspaper originally published the cartoons, they said that this publication was an attempt to contribute to the debate about criticism of Islam and self-censorship.
In other words a deliberate provocation. You could even call it goading.
It was that act that has led to today's tragedy.

I wouldnt agree with your wording, but the point you raise is an important one.

If the cartoons were not printed the people would still be alive.

It does fill me with great sadness that people have had to die in order that in some bizzarre way our freedom of speech is protected. Of course what will happen is freedoms will be eroded for all as Govts. always use such events to their own advantage.

Would like to hear more of you two's bizarre views:

Question for you both, Charlie Hebdo has for years mocked other religions too, not just islam, so:
a)- why haven't Christians, Jews and Sikhs murdered their cartoonists before, and
b)- do you think they should now kill the remaining members of C.H. staff?

I'll quote you but reply to all my other critics at the same time in a final post because it's getting to my bedtime and i do have work in the morning.
I am a proponent of non violence, free speech and personal freedoms. What i do not condone is making inflammatory remarks specifically designed to inflame or provoke a particular group. E.g crying fire in the proverbial theatre. I believe in rights but i also believe in responsibilities. If you are going to make a malicious provocation and not expect a reaction, then you are stupid as well as malicious.Which is what the Jyllands Posten newspaper by their own admission did. Only they knew there would be a reaction but were not concerned what the consequences might be.
We need to promote free speech but not at the cost of deliberately singling out one religious, ethnic or racial group.
I hope there will no more cartoons printed, not because we have lost the battle but because it is the right thing to do.
