Should National Service be mandatory ?

Fortunately, unlike WW1, the public can't be conned so easily now.

I've always felt that national service should be compulsary in every country. If only to give everybody a set of life skills and a sense of community.

But I'm not talking about having weapons or training to kill. I'm talking about essentially a type of scouts and guides for late teens and young adults. I think it'd go a long way to address social problems everywhere.

I'd design it to be the decent foundation for armed forces training later if required. Then I'd use it to take over the world. Hail Tony!

If only we had a construct where those nearest and dearest to us could instill such traits...or in those unfortunate situations where such a thing doesnt exist or isnt as strong as one would hope, we could then rely on a place that children and young people could attend every day where trained professionals could also instill such traits....i mean, they could even test them after a period of time to see how well they did.
Id even let the kids have a really long holiday over the summer

Honestly no, I dont think National service will do anything here, the Military dont want it for one.

But maybe offer decent incentives to any volunteer's that want to get trained and be ready to fight if/when needed. even if there are multiple tier's to that of those willing to go abroad and those who want to be part of a home guard of sorts etc.
 
After laying your life on the line and seeing all your mates killed you even get a free suit.


Starmer would be at the front leading us all on. Then again.....

Definitely worth it.

Compulsory National Service is conscription surely ?

I'd be in favour of National Service in some form for those who can't find work through their education, but I wouldn't want them as part of our armed forces, leave that to those that want to volunteer for it.

As you know though, there aren't enough volunteering anymore
