Intefering with play and Injured players were included in this two player rule and it was used successfully for over 75 years before FIFA started pissing aboutDisagree with this, it would result in far too many goals being disallowed because someone was injured, tying their shoe lace, chatting up the redhead by the corner flag etc.
The interfering with play element worked reasonably well for years, it's only since the introduction of VAR and the subsequent "clarifications" of the rules that its become such a shitshow. The answer is therefore pretty obvious to me.
As an aside, I'm struggling to understand the number of people who want to scrap it completely, it would completely change the game, might as well have an offshoot sport called hoofball or something
Hail Mary contest.it would be a totally different game without it.
Absolutely this. Just so simpleJust have offside if there is a clear gap between attacker and last defender - if any part of the defender is in line then its onside
Are you sure? I'm sure the interfering with play bit came in maybe 70's or 80's?Intefering with play and Injured players were included in this two player rule and it was used successfully for over 75 years before FIFA started pissing about
It can’t be scrapped though can it, or you’d just end up with players stood in the six yard box goal hanging the whole game like at school. Scores would end up about 14-12.
yes but what will the rule be?Offside is a good rule, IMO.
What's lacking is instantaneous, unbiased offside calls - none of this delayed bullshit - coupled with rapid replay showing why offside was called. AI is improving rapidly - and this sort of offside officiating Nirvana is at most 5-years away IMO.
The good thing about AI is that you can make the offside rule whatever you want.yes but what will the rule be?
a toe offside, not interfering, whole body etc
no matter the tech if the rule isn't so absolute that it can be interpretated differently by each ref then it won't matter how good the AI is
