Should Tevez contract be extended

i think there is too much disinformation (hype) around tevez and his dontknowbywho proclamed world player status.

numbers speak a different story.

since his last season come back from golf he has been on the pitch

509 mins last season , scoring 4 goals. 3 of them in a single game at norwich. which means 1 goal every 127 mins , but if you take out norwich game it become 1 goal in 429 mins ...

this season he's been on the pitch 713 mins scoring 4 goals , 1 goal every 178 mins played.

the total is 8 goals in 1222 mins played , 1 every 152 mins played , hardly world class numbers. also worst if take out the norwich hat trick , 1 goal every 228 mins played.

this are NOT world class numbers , and surely not an adeguate return from an £11M a year (after tax) striker.

Stats don't tell you the whole story, because Tevez is not the type of striker who sit the whole game waiting the team to create chances for him.

And if you are very good at stats, just tell us how many games he started since joining City

How many goals he scored and how many assists he have so far.

RVP is much more appreciated footballer in every sense than Tevez is. And he went for 24 millions being few months younger than Tevez will be in June next year when he'll enter last year of his contract.

SO, if his contract is extended to pick more money when selling him, he'll stay till 2014 at least and will be 30.5 years old.

More appreciated on the stregnth of mainly last season.
He was one of those players who were talked about like they Could be great, but only ever lived up to the hype last season. Sure he always looked decent, but not outstanding until last season.
Carlos has been held in very high regard (football wise) since west ham. He offers different options to a team than rvp, but for me, better work rate out ranks a good free kick, we have that in kolarov. I prefer carlos' bull in a china shop to rvps gazzelle in a field. I also think carlos would fit a lot easier into most teams, ( because of his bullish attitude) whereas rvp may find it hard being a focal point in a strange setup.
This of course is just my opinion, but i believe carlos to be a better player than rvp, his only flaw is the bullshit that comes with him, in the name of kia wotshisface. If he ever binned this leech and got a decent agent (if there is such a thing) im willing to bet he would have a lot less off the field issues and a lot more interest from other high profile clubs.
I also think the reason the majority of transfer deals tabled for tevez, are ruined by kismas involvement, either directly by pricing him out of a move, or indirectly because they dont want him near their club. Again this is just my opinion.
Accept what you said is completely not true. Just going by memory alone RVP has been fantastic for the last 3 seasons. The two before last he had injury problems, but for the last 22 months he must has been phenomenal. The stats back this up.

Last year he got 30 goals alone. This is more than Tevez ever has in the Premiership. The year before he was injured alot and only played 25 games, but managed 18 goals. Tevez in his 2nd best year at City managed 20 goals in 31 games. In every other season RVP has had a better goals to games ratio.

Apart from that I think RVP suits your system better, is more intelligent player and better technically. RVP has just gone to United in a system that does not suit him and already has 5 Premiership goals. He will almost certainly get 20+ Premiership goals.

Tevez could go downhill after 30 I think, there's no way I can see the club offering him the same terms for a new deal that would take him well into his 30s. If he accepted the Soriano style deal of a lower basic wage bumped up by performance-related incentives that could do it, but Tevez is shall we say quite a greedy footballer so would he go for that or move to somewhere like PSG or Chelsea who might pay him the monstrous wage in one go?

I dont know about the extention, but I know one thing - Tevez lifting up the EPL trophy last year was a pain to my eyes. He had NO BUSINESS in City winning the title last year with his antics, but was first one to the trophy.

And like someone said - we won the title with Aguero, Balo, and Dzeko (without Tevez, basically) - so how is he "integral" to the team and the other two are not??

-- Tue Oct 02, 2012 12:10 am --

I dont know about the extention, but I know one thing - Tevez lifting up the EPL trophy last year was a pain to my eyes. Depends on how he does this season. No team at the moment is willing to pay him over the odds, and as Love City has said it could be based on incentives if we decide to extend his contract.

His age will prevent this... He has always said he wants to finish his career in Argentina...
Maybe a 2 year deal... BTW his assets on the pitch don't always end up in goals or assists. His intensity is his best asset. His goals and assists are the by product. His team mates reap the benefits also.

I think it would be a mistake. Right now he's really motivated and the club holds all the cards so to speak. Giving him an extension puts him back in the drivers seat. He'll be guaranteed his wages and can ask for transfers etc.. and if we were even able to sell him it wouldn't be for much because there aren't that many squads that can afford him. Right now we've got him at his best and he's playing hard for a new contract. At the end of 2 years we can see if he's still worth it, but at 30 years old I doubt it. At best he might be worth it for 1 additional year, then we're stuck with a guy we can't get rid of for 2 extra years.

The club should sell him in January or next summer.
You know for a fact that its only a question of time before we have another sulk and fall out.I personally cannot forget or forgive his attitude and antics last season.
Secondly out of the 4 main strikers he is the one that is dispensable on the grounds of age and being the player most similar to Aguero ( but not as good ) with the other 2 giving us something that bit different.Apart from the odd game Aguero and Tevez do not seem to gel as perhaps they should.
However the price should be right and not another give away.
