Should we chuck the European Champions League this summer?

I can't believe this thread has got to 14 pages. We are favorites to win it for crying out load.
That’s only because more people have put money on us to win it at the bookies. It doesn’t mean we are the most likely to win it.

Looking at the mistakes leading to goals that our team constantly give away in big European games, even our best players, and the amount of chances we miss, many easy ones too; I don’t see how we’re most likely to win it despite being favourites with the bookies.

I think we’ve got a hell of a lot to do! And I think we’re more likely to get to the final by beating Juve and Bayern, but it’s Atlético Madrid who I fear the most of all teams in Europe and it’d likely be then in the final.

They epitomise everything we struggle against. They’d lap up 90-120 minutes of our wingers cutting inside for a shot on their stronger foot and try and hit us on the break and force mistakes from us. We are exactly what they relish playing against and exactly what their tools are ready for the most.

And even if we did win the thing. It wouldn’t feel remotely like it would in normal circumstances. The fact none of us can be there really would make it feel a fraction as special. We’ve laughed at Liverpool’s title win being one with an asterisk, not a proper title winning feeling for them. Everyone would say the same if we won the CL, especially with there being no two-legged quarters or semis.

But as far as the OP goes, @Hart of the Matter - I think there will be another lockdown in the Winter with the second wave because we have no vaccine yet. Next season will likely be disrupted n’all. So we may as well go all out to win this year’s one and just tick it off to say we’ve done it.

Whilst it would be great to win it part of me wouldn't be to bothered if we didn't.
I want our first Champs league win to be special. I want a week in the country it occurs in celebrating properly with thousands of other city fans.
Clearly a win this year will have none of that and just like our league title wins none will ever have the feeling of that first one even leaving aside the exceptional circumstances surrounding that and a win this year would take all that away. You only have to look at how Liverpool have been mocked with their 'tainted title'.
So I definitely wouldn't go as far as chucking it but if we have to wait till next season to win it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world for me.

Whist I think we could win it there are too many things that make me think we won't,

Looking at the EuroClubIndex rankings they predict us to be the 3rd most likely to win it with a 16% Chance

https://www.euroclubindex.com/league-odds/

1 FC Bayern München 23.7%

2 Paris Saint-Germain 17.3%

3 Manchester City 16.6%

4 Atlético Madrid 13%

5 FC Barcelona 12.8%

6 RB Leipzig 4.7%

7 Juventus 4.1%

8 Real Madrid 3.4%

9 Atalanta 3.2%

Clearly we have a decent chance and I think it just being 1 leg might help us, and if the players have been saving themselves for this then they should be able to get motivated

That would be a no then?

Got to be better than this thread though
The City, Solskjaer and Pochettino Conspiracy

I thought nothing was going to top that thread for the shittest in BM history, little did i know this croc o shit would be posted less than a week later.

What has happened to this place lol

Defensively we are far from good enough to win this competition. Maybe when we get defenders who can actually defend and are not slow as snail we might have decent chance in CL.

the big thing is we are still in a knockout game that uefa will have a big say on the match officials vs madrid ?

uefa was hoping we would be out of champions league football for 2 seasons and got kicked in the bollocks by CAS, so you think they will just let it lie and just forget it ? never in a months of sundays will they forget it and mark my words here, we did something no other club would ever dream of doing and dare take on uefa and win

from the moment on that monday morning and the report saying manchester city did nothing wrong you knew what was going to happen next, i even think pep knows and the players know that game vs madrid will be 11 vs 15 and VAR and madrid will get the rub of the green

forget all this bollocks manchester city are now friends with uefa and we are talking and meeting to see what happens next and going forward, i can tall you what happens next ? we get done over in the games ? we will have no power to moan or ask questions under the laws of uefa and its players or manager can not say thing or face punishment

its simple uefa lose the CAS case but still hold all the cards, i have watched enough champions league game to know what goes on with the match officials and now VAR what chance have we got ? yellow cards will be flying about in the first 10 minutes, madrid players having everything given to them, dare you tackle them and they will fall over, free kicks ? pens ? red cards ? fouls ? talking back to the referee ? pep sent to the stands ?

the head of the Spanish league already had his say of manchester city and uefa will bend over and give him what he wants and city out of champions league again

It would be incredible for us to win this with the weak defence we have. Chelsea won it after defending for 89 minutes against Bayern. We are just not capable of that sort of performance. The single match format suits us though because we score (and miss) a lot of goals so if it comes down to a shoot-out type match we will have a chance. The team I fear most is Bayern. I despise them as a club and they have a lot of pace in their team.
