Showsec - again

they're not too bad at N1, although the southampton game the queues were getting longer and they seemed deliberately slow searching everyone until close to kick off then started to get a bit tasty and they stopped and started to let people through. as for food, yes all about club profit, i , personally don't buy any food/ drink at any club, i bought a beer at maine road once and it was worse than piss a waste of 90p lol, food is overpriced so don't bother, always used to get chips from over the road up until last season when was stopped and told not allowed, argued i had been taking food in since the ground opened why not now ? now its fun, sad i know for a 50+ blue, to try and sneak a pie in, did manage a portion of chips for one game though.

The issue is that I'm being stopped, scanned, frisked, etc, before the start of home games.

I don't have a criminal record. I'm a life long City fan who has held a season ticket for over 30 years.

I'd like somebody at City, or even you, to explain to me why I should be continually stopped, scanned, frisked/searched before going into the stadium.

We have been at the Etihad for almost 13 years, and I've never known security like this. I appreciate we are living in a day and age of terrorism, but is the risk that high, that every home match is treated like there is a terrorism threat?

As for stopping fans taking drink and food in, that's more down to protecting matchday revenue and takings. That has nothing to do with a possible terroist threat.
but the steward doesn't know all that. not nice but in these times they need to be wary.

I said a few pages back though they could easily have for example at P make 2 of the 8 turnstiles for paper and cityzen card holders and the other 6 season card only with a scaled back measure on them than the wand and checking tables, it would be less time consuming if a regular match goer with no prior issues were just padded down and a bag check, maybe for new season card holders in their first year they use the allocated 2 turnstiles.

Thats the reality of the situation but it can be done correctly and with some humility.

Showsec are all about £profit, being seen to be tough and doing the job and those with the jackets on are virtually to a man/woman incapable of doing the job and lacking the requisite skills.
Well said.

Having worked alongside showsec staff... I feel more fear when at events with showsec staff present than when they aren't there.

Some ISIL loon with preplanned intent to detonate an explosive at the Etihad is NOT going to be stopped by the minimum waged monkeys in those yellow jackets.

If anywhere, the Intel gathering/general observations need taking place on the outer rim of the Etihad Campus, with police conducting spot checks on those they have suspicion of.

As for the hooligan element, a mature flat cap wearing bloke holding a flask with a packet of werthers originals for his Grandson is not going to be having a rumble so why the fuck take his drink off him?

It's over policing to the extreme and causes more of a sterile environment

As someone who works for Showsec and sees how the operation is set up on a match day and concerts then believe me you are better off with Showsec

When I arrived at K entrance I actually asked the steward why in the last few games had security been so over the top. His response was that it's pressure from GMP. That's fine, but my question is, are the Rags getting searched and scanned before their games?

If not then why are GMP treating City supporters like criminals.
I went to Old Trafford twice in October (more than most Rags will go all season) for the Super League Grand Final and the League Cup derby and was searched both times. I've been searched once at City this season (Bournemouth game) and not for any others.

Away fans get searched every game with very few exceptions for decades, but it doesn't stop people taking things in as is very ineffective.

Well no shit sherlock... You aren't exactly going to say anything else are you.

Showsec are shit and are the laughing stock of the security industry.

What's this 'scanning' shit you're all going on about?

To be fair I've never had trouble with them

Never had so much of a look going into entrance P..never mind being searched

Never had any mither standing in 116 either..though I'm sure it's just tolerated there

They don't even bother with the toilet smokers these days

Same for me going in M never been scanned, searched or even looked at, nor have I ever seen an excessive queue at that entrance.

Haha. I know several people that have got into gigs at the etihad without tickets and some have even managed on a matchday. Explain that....

I get why there are security checks but surely profiling comes into fuck the PC brigade but there's not many 65-70 year old terrorists or kids, come to think of it a middle aged white woman isn't much of a threat. Some might not like it but it's just facts.
The middle aged white woman who sits next to me had her perfume confiscated at West Brom a few years ago.

Pathetic today on P with the showsec clowns, asking to see cards before you were allowed to queue when I got there, they dragged 3 blokes out to look at their cards and asked if they had been drinking, took the card off one to inspect, confiscated a butty box and flask off some fella saying no food and drink allowed (Yes I know bottles are confiscated but flasks n pack lunches ffs), then told a couple with paper tickets to leave the line and fold their ticket properly before they could get near the turnstiles instead of just showing them how.

The everton and barca games ques were partly down to these wankers OTT security checks, with their stupid wands.
How was it last week at wba the security check was quick, friendly and efficient, unlike these lot.
You get some jobsworths that just love to be arsey because they can. I've regularly walked in the ground whilst eating from chippy trays in the past - got stopped once by a younger lad who probably thought he had to. I always try and walk in hiding a water bottle as many will take that off you (many don't bother) as nobody should be able to take water from you and make you buy a drink from their vendors. Taking stuff like a butty box and flask you can't get back easily is ridiculous, I'd be surprised if the rule makers intended to prevent stuff like that entering. Bit harder than with a plastic bottle to throw a flask or butty box at Rooney's head.

You either search and scan everyone, or just don't bother as it's then pointless ... And the muppets Showsec appear to employ, are too thick and incompetent to do 'all' in good time without forming huge queues and delays .....

but the steward doesn't know all that. not nice but in these times they need to be wary.

Bill.

I'm nearly 50. I'm a white British Male. I was wearing what many would consider normal matchday clothing. Shoes, jeans, and a very thin Puma jacket, which was almost see through. I couldn't have hid a sandwich box, let alone an explosive device under that jacket. If I was carrying a bag, rucksack, or something obvious inside my jacket, then fair enough.

But the funny thing was, I'd gone into town earlier that morning to take some pictures with my point and shoot camera. I put it in my jacket pocket. The Showsec guy scanned it. Nothing! No beep. No alram. No flashing light on the hand held scanner. So either it only scans explosive devices(?), or it wasn't working, and is only being used to give the impression that people are being scanned, when they really aren't.

And let's be honest. Snaking queues around the stadium, and on to Alan Turing Way, due to security searches, scanning, ticket inspections, removing drink and food, etc, at the turnstiles, give any terroists the ideal opportunity to cause carnage outside the stadium.

I think half the problem is the 5 to 3 brigade all spilling out of pubs and expecting to waltz on in without delay and people trying to smuggle cans of lager in doesn't help matters. The Club need to start giving points to people willing to enter 30 minutes before kick off. I myself roll up late as i like a pint or 6 before the game but if there is cues, so be it. There is always going to be searches. Are the cues as bad from 2 to 2.30?
