What the fuck ever happened to national pride, in a way i would love us to be like aussie or americans in the pride we take from national sports.

People saying they hate the national team because of the FA, i mean WTF, i hate the FA they bent as fook but still take pride in my country.

Can only imagine what winning the world cup would do to this country, probably single handedly drag us out of recession

While all the English people that hate the national team can move to Scotland where you know for a fact it wont be reported on!!!
I don't know about the Aussies but the Americans don't really understand international team sport, as it's not something they focus on(outside the olympics and with baseball amd softball having been dropped a large part of that will die). Having lived there for 10 years, explaining how players can play for both a club side and an international side got real tiresome!

It's not your country, and never has been unless you're one of the 1% who own it

Well if you gonna roll that out, under old monarch law, all English land actually belongs to the queen so unless you in 00000.00001% of the population its not your country and the queen is german and prince charles is marvin the martian in disguise and we not actually english we a miss mash of other empires invading us, so if i trace my family tree its probably Norway i should support
You've got it. No disrespect intended but Nationalism is a mugs game. It's about binding you to your bosses and rulers and turning people against the foreigner who in reality is your friend

without Rooney we're knackered for the world cup but fergie doesn't give a crap and neither do all the irish and singaporans

I don't understand how people don't support England, just because the squad used to be a lot of Rag players, when they pull on the England shirt they are playing for my team, for England. Rooney is the best we have, I don't want him to do well at United but if he has a great season and can stay injury free it's great for England! I love the way the country all goes mad for England in the World Cup, we are one of the proudest nations. City & England 'til I die!

I'm Welsh so ive watched the last 8 or so World Cups as a neatral but hope the British teams do well. Guess ill be watching the next 8 world cups as a neutral also being Welsh unless we win a bid to host it some time, we have 2 x Stadiums in Cardiff, Nice one in Swansea.......umm cant think of any others.
Brazil v Italy from Pennydarren Park, Merthyr just doesnt seem right

(can we co-host 2018 with England....)

When he's playing for the Rag's I hate him with a passion and think he's shit.........
............... But for England, he's a class act and will happily chant him name.

I've said it before and i'll say it again and you can call me bitter all you want, I would support England if Rooney didn't play. Anyway, we've got Pistol Pete Crouch to score the goals, ;)

his knee swells up like a balloon after games & he has an inflamed tendon, the battle is on to see who kicks it first.

The first person who injures him will be struck off by the fa and banished from the country by SkySports as andy gray will not be able to get overexcited everytime he says his name

Indeed, the Tower of London awaits, and don't forget those bloody Beefeaters aren't done up in MANUre kit just for the tourists.

anyone who cannot appreciate a good goal or a good move by a rival player, with a ability and a winning mentality, is an arsehole. Like voting BNP.

Anyone who did not despair when rooney got injured at 18 at Euro 2004 may as well sign up for Al-Queda. I mean it.
Haha, how ridiculous.

I think you should give football a miss for a while, you're clearly the one who's forgotten it's entertainment.

That is fine, I don't really understand national pride but am generally able to respect different opinions. Lot's of people are able to support England and be proud of their nation in a positive way and you seem to be a good example of this. However, it does often spill over into nonsense like

and that is when I really think that national pride too quickly becomes divisive and utterly pointless.

i did mean us yes ,but you cant say you didn't enjoy the time Sven was in charge of England can you ?

No I didn't remotely enjoy it. I thought it was quite sad tbh as that was the end of England having any credibility in terms of international football. I know I probably sound like I am contradicting myself, saying I am not particularly proud of being English and then whinging about having a foreign manager, but I do think it is against the whole spirit of international football for a developed nation (in footballing terms) to have a foreign coach. Just renders the whole thing pointless imo. As someone else said, if we all accept foreign coaches, why not have foreign players? The win at all costs attitude of The FA will end up with "England" fielding a Spaniard or an Italian at some point, it is inevitable. At that point they may as well disband the England team and concentrate on club football.
