On his day or not he is better than Milner Barry Hargreaves DeJong Savic and kolo, whether he plays CMF, DMF, box to box or CB. We could sell DeJong Savic and Kolo, release Hargreaves, Pizzaro and MJ and buy this guy saving a massive amount on wages and collect over half the transfer fee from sales and still have a better squad/ first 11. This makes even more sense when you look at FFPR. As previously mentioned this guy and Hazard should be the first 2 signings without any hesitation.

How do you know he is better than Barry or De Jong when he has been playing CB for most of the season & has never played in the Premier League ?

When he played in midfield recently he looked like an asthmatic & was dead on his feet by 70 mins. Had he been playing for City, he would have been murdered on here.

Similarly, if he'd been up against our strikers at CB last night & caught in possession seveal times within 15 yards of his own penalty area, as he was, we would have torn Bilbao a new arsehole & he would be responsible for them losing the uefa.

He would be a potentially decent signing & future excellent signing, IF, he could get upto the pace of the Premier League, which he isn't yet, not a guaranteed instant replacement for 3 players.

This. I think people underestimate how difficult it is for players to move from La Liga to the Premier League, it took Silva a good 6 months to adjust. Martinez does appear to be a phenomenal talent but he looked sloppy and lethargic at times last night and in the Premier League he'd have been punished for it.

What we have in Martinez, who already at the age of 23 is a World Cup winner, Euro U21 winner (as the team captain), Euro U19 winner (as captain) has been a regular starter for Bilbao since he was 17 and voted La Liga Breakthrough Player of the Year 2010, teams said to be interested in him are both Manchester teams, Liverpool, Arsenal, Real Madrid and Barcelona, - is probably the most promising and versatile midfielder/defender in the world.
He has a very strong physique and great engine, and has more interceptions and tackles than Mascherano for example, more than any player in Real or Barcelona in fact, which says something about him..

He himself says his style of play is more suited to the PL than La Liga, and surrounded by players such as YaYa, Kompany and Silva he'll have a great chance of becoming even better. He has everything needed in order to become one of the world's best midfielder.

I agree with what Mad said, - Javi would be a better option than any of the above mentioned. Maybe not a lot better than Barry atm, but at least at the same level of quality as him.

In Spain he is thought to be the future heartbeat of Spain's national side.

Here here Matt, this thread is going the way of the mata thread last year, which should have been renamed anti-Mata. If we don't get him this will be another missed opportunity which was the case with Mata. The same old arguments against a player, prem experience blah blah blah. I for one would have preferred Mata over Nasri and on this years performance I think we would have won the league by now! I would love to know who people think would be better than Martinez who is actually gettable.

Javi Martinez would balance us as a squad. He has the tackling vice of Mascherano and the passing ability of Xabi Alonso. He is the one player I want at our club. He and Yaya would dominate most every Prem team and CL team.

Yeah using the other players as a priority is fine, was more just trying to show how much easier it is to have quality squad depth but with less players when players can play across multiple lines.

I'm not so sold on the need for a new striker, will really depend on Guidetti for me. Tevez back in the team has made me much more of the belief that we really only need one absolute striker on the field at a time (Tevez has been just as much an attacking mid). I think Balotelli and Aguero are both best as the most forward players and would rather 3 players more fluid in their movement behind than simply playing a 2nd striker. If Dzeko left I'd rather Hazard than Cavani/Falcao.

I never realised what a doddle the Premier League was.

We just fuck Barry & Co off, bring in a couple of new geezers & run away with everything. Amazed we didn't think of it earlier. Ok, they have no experience whatsoever but I'm sure if we open next season away at liverpool, or Chelsea they'll just slot straight in without even a hint of a problem, that's how easy it is in reality. How stupid we have been.
