There are frequent examoles of players retiring from international duty to protect their club careers and also players and managers objecting to call-ups for U21s etc. Going off topic perhaps!Rascal said:Marvin said:Does it. To my mind most internationals are meaningless and the pinnacle of the game has moved to club football with the National leagues and the Champions League. This shift has been going on for some time.
To yours and SWPBs mind they might be
But to the players they are not. They wouldnt bother if they didnt think it was the pinnacle and obviously they do.
Back on topic Silva went to play for his country, the best team on the planet because he is one of the best players on the best team on the planet.
Silva got injured playing for the best team on the planet because its his ambition to play for the best team on the planet as much as he can.
He could have stubbed his toe getting out of the bath and be out for a month, instead he got injured playing for the best team on the planet.
If you really believe these players dont want to play for there countries before there clubs you are naive. The club enables there ambition to represent there country.
Its a simple notion, the prospect of representing there country drives more footballers than not. Adam Johnsons reason for moving as he stated was the lack of opportunity he was given to prove his credentials to represent his country.
