Silva V Berkovic V Ali B V Kinky?

For me, it'll always be Kinky. I just like it that way. I suppose its all a matter of what age you were/are and the circumstances that are happening at the time.

For me, I was in my mid-teens, we'd got rid of Peter Reid (who had got us our highest league finish in my life), Brian Horton brought in some great entertaining footy and then Alan Ball was put in charge. So we had gone from challenging to bad to a lot worse.

So Kinky was a breath of fresh air in a bad time for me (and many others). And when you live and breathe footy at the age of 14/15 then whoever is the best player will usually be your hero. I've never seen anyone make dribbling at full pelt look so easy. He could turn a defender inside out, and then another one straight after. He'd take on a defence and then look to pull the trigger then loft an inch-perfect pass to Quinny or Summerbee that people in the stands hadn't seen yet. You could hear everyone at Maine Rd saying "Give it to Kinky" whenever we got the ball. He could play on the left, right or middle.

Ali was class. I'll never forget his first game against Brum. You knew he was special. Then I went to Hillsborough and witnessed one of the best footballing displays I've ever seen. Unfortunately he was getting on and by the time we were back in the Prem he didn't have enough. Although against Newcastle at COMs he was amazing.

Berkovic was great but again never got a chance for us in the Prem - did he fall out with Keegan? He could spot a pass, but not as good as Ali or Kinky.

Silva doesn't have the individual skill of Kinks or Ali, but I'd say his passing and vision are as good as the rest of them. Time will tell after this season how good he'll be, but I'd like to see him in the middle and pulling the strings.

So for me right now its Kinky, Ali, Silva and Berkovic. Subject to change,.

A fair of few of you keep saying about Ali at Hillsborough dont get me wrong he was class that day , but no one as mentioned Gio at Maine Road against Newcastle who where top of the league , best perfornance I have witnessed if you can watch Kingladze that day have a watch cause he ran riot . I forgot to mention the Newcastle match in my own post, but that is the best I've ever seen anyone play.

Silva by a country mile. Having said that I would have loved to have had Ali B at City a few years earlier, he may have given Silva a run for his money. Silva is standing out in the best team we have had for 40 years, Kinky stood out in the worst.

Ali B. The man was genuis.

So hard to not pick Silva, but I remember Sheff Wednesday with Ali B. It was like watching pele

You could say its easier to play and stand out in a good team than a bad one, we'll never know if kinky could have stood out in our team today but he was some special player thats for sure. I remember talking to a utd fan at the time and him saying kinky was the only player at City good enough for them and I said who would you drop for him, his reply was anybody.

Good post. Is this still being debated?!

Those who are critical of Kinkladze, I suspect are more critical of his impact, legacy, rather than his natural talent itself. There is no doubt whatsoever, that Kinladze had more natural ability than Silva, Berkovic and Benarbia combined. But Silva for example, is far more mature at his age, and will make more of an impact in big games, fit into a team more etc etc. It all depends on how these players are being judged. I've already stated that it's silly to compare them directly and vaguely. They are all very different types of players, but in the game, come under that vague title 'creative midfield players'.

Those who actually watched Kinkladze with the ball, with their own eyes, know he is probably the closest player to Messi in terms of style (running with pace at players with sublime skill and touch). If he had grown up at Barca for example, and not the Georgian youth set up, he would have grown into a more mature player, with experience of playing with players of great natural ability. Kinkladze's big break at a young age, was playing at City, in an average team, with a shocking manager. The Ajax thing has been debated to death by those who actually have a football brain and understand why it didnt work out for him. After that, he was never going to get a move to a top club, nor was he able to develop the confidence of a top level player again. Derby was a shambles, and a tragedy for someone with so much natural talent.

I honestly think that some of the posters are to young to remember Gio cause they would not be putting comments like country mile and not fit to lace his boots etc... relating to the other 3 been better than him .

I would ask any poster now and say who is the best player in the world right now and why ? If they reply its messi cause the way he goes past players there is no more discussion.

They was a man from Dyanmo
Kinkladze was his name o
Franny Lee said sign him up and took him down Maine Road
KINKY KINKY
Kinkladze was name o
