Hart, Kompany, De Jong and Silva are all on an equal level of importance in our team. We build our team around these 4 every week. Or at least we should.Garry.Cook said:MCFC BOB said:Instead of the usual and predictable replies of "fuck off", "what the hell?", "are you blind?" I'm going to explain long-windedly why I think you are wrong.
Firstly, if you spent a game watching Silva like Sky used to offer wit their "PlayerCam", you would notice that he creates more space than any other player on the pitch. He can spot spaces that haven't been created yet. He plays football like chess, in the way that he plans the game four or five passes ahead of time.
He may not produce mind boggling skill like Robinho used to, but I can tell you that Silva will not be a flop over here. He may not do fancy stepovers like Cronaldo but he softly strokes the ball into his feet and out again, and makes our attacking play tick. You saw how much better we played against both Notts County and Blackpool when he was thrown into the mix.
And also, you may not notice if you don't look at stats, but he has 6 or 7 assists to his name this season, and is in the top 5 midfielders who have created the most goalscoring chances this season. He quietly goes about his business without bothering anyone, and without exactly creating "jizz-fest" moments.
Also, he may only have 2 goals for us this season, but the amount of chances he's had that have been either cleared off the line or clipped away off the post or something are reaching double figures now.
The only criticism I have of him, is the power he puts behind the ball. If he passed and finished just with a bit more power, he'd be our top scorer, in my opinion. He's the most important player in our team by a mile. We don't win when Silva doesn't play. We win when Tevez doesn't.
Cheers Bob. Admittedly I don't have the footballing brain myself to even recognise his space-finding ability but what I have seen is his exquisite touch and passing. If he can improve on the weight of his passes in the final third and, like you say, finish off a few more of his chances I reckon he will be up there with the best.
Not just yet though.
