I always thought Charles Mackerras was Scottish, because of his name & his association with the Scottish Symphony Orchestra, but he's an Aussie too.

News to me as well but l thought you had spelled Barbirolli's name wrong so what do l know. If l was on Desert Island Discs my first choice would be Beecham's Boheme with Pavarotti and Mirella French. The other seven would take months to decide.
