Sinead O'Connor RIP

Not sure if this has been posted, apologies if so.
Look at her microphone technique, she rarely moves away, even on the higher notes. Most singers compensate and use mic distance as a tool to cover up that they cant quite do it.
She's singing from her heart, not even thinking about it. A very rare talent.
Paul calf on bass as well. Bag o shite...

Been having a listen to her first two albums this week.
It's been a while.
I must admit I did shed a little tear on occasion. What a voice she had.
I can normally put a semi coherent description to a voice, but hers is one I can't put my finger on.
She could sing happy fucking birthday and make it sound beautiful.
There are other good,
great singers with more range, lots of them, but not many have that ability to do the subtle vocal gymnastics within a song, or even a verse, or a line in a song, that she could do.
Whisper and shout in one word, angry and happy the next.
Sometimes I feel she tells you she loves you in that quiet, melancholic way, just so she can bollock you for something completely unrelated that happened 200 years ago..

Imagine being in the studio hearing those first few recordings, you'd be gobsmacked I imagine.
She had a certain innocence in the first few years of her career, gave her all, but quickly realised the cesspit she was getting involved with.
I get the impression she didn't ever realise how good she was, or how much she was loved, a reluctant hero perhaps.
RIP angry angel x
Excellent.

Nailed it. That voice. The ability to go from pitch perfect whisper to full throated roar in an instant. Unique I think.
Very much so.
You know when you try to compare a singer to another and its quite an easy game? We've all played it.
In this case I'm struggling.
She was truly unique no doubt.
I'm not normally upset when a musician dies, I've seen a few go over the years.
When Amy passed I was a little sad, but not upset as such. Same with Kurt, and much earlier, Ian. When Mark went it was almost expected.
She, somehow, in my mind anyway, deserved to have a little longer.
I miss her already, and that's weird.
I hope she's at peace.

Last post on this for now.
I was playing a few of her tracks at work last week, and the amount of people that came up and asked me about what I was playing was astonishing.
Most said it was beautiful, some had never heard her before, all said it was lovely.
Can't say that about many artists.

Note perfect.
Can't imagine any other singer, past or present, pulling this off.

As I’ve said Cru, I would never have considered myself a fan even though I acknowledged her talent.

It was more as an Irishman I often looked on her as a typical Irish woman enigma. When they rise to prominence they tend to find a cause to rally behind or an Ill to rail against.

I can sometimes switch off and miss some really good stuff.

Listening to her Irish rebel song stage though I can observe that her voice is perfect for it.
She is perfectly strong and soft in good measure and her breath control is naturally fitted to the lyrical flow without thought. It is not trained.
It needs to come from the heart not the head and it always does.

Thanks Cru. I really enjoyed that.

The day she died but before it was public knowledge I bumped into her father, who is a thoroughly decent man and I can’t help thinking how cruel it is for him to have a daughter who doesn’t just belong to the family but it is icon shared with the world.
