Singapore/Malaysia

Visit Boogie st markets in S'Pore, good atmosphere/food etc

I liked the Genting Highlands in Maylasia and a resort called Kuantan

Batu Caves in KL is worth a visit.

Bugis st market etc is great and the traders nightclub is a top night out.

Been to Singapore a couple of times. As already said, the cable car over to Sentosa island is great - and Sentosa island itself is quite a lot of fun, a kind of mini theme-park with beaches, gardens, shows - and the southernmost point in continental Asia (so they claim).

But my main advice would be: EAT!

The food in Singapore is fantastic, with excellent Chinese, Malay, Indian, and Indonesian food. Although they are a sanitised version of street food, I loved the hawker markets, where you can wander round the different stalls to get platefuls of loads of different dishes, and just find a seat at a communal table to scoff it! Little India and the Chinatown are also worth a wander around to find some interesting food.

Raffles is worth it for the experience, but the Singapore sling is vile, if you ask me, and extortionately expensive!

Be sure to drop by the Istana and celebrate the recent passing of the despot Lee Kuan Yew. You will be well received.

Wowsers! Wasn't expecting so many tips ....

So far have read through each post and the list looks like this:

Singapore:
orchid garden
Orchard towers
Istana
Sentosa Island
Little India
Chinatown
Sim lim square
Marina Bay Sands

Malaysia:
Bugis St
Gentinng Islands
Batu Caves
Kuantan
petaling st market
Langkawi

Have I missed out anything?

Reason for our travels is we want to check out and decide whether Singapore or Malaysia are places worth moving to for good. So will see.

Thanks for the tips folks....

stayed in Kuantan for two weeks when on an exercise in the RAF, great place

The caves (if I remember them correctly) are worth a visit but watch the monkeys there, they are proper vicious little fuckers

Stayed in the Mandarin Oriental in KL too, my window opened onto the twin towers.... great experience

Orchard towers, Singapore. More commonly known as 4 Floors of whores

Haha wondered how long it would be until someone mention it.

Not far from the hard rock, good night to be had in there!!

I shit you not, one of the officers on the Sqn I was on stayed with a bird from four floors for a whole night, told her in the morning that he didn't realise she was a hooker and paid her with a 6 pack of Penguin biscuits and $10 (on my life)

Boogie street years a go was the place to go. It is a lot quiter now than when i first went. Orchard Towers has taken over from it. If you are going. You might want to do a reach around first!
