Singing section/Atmosphere

After I got home last night I watched the last 10 minutes of the match.

I was absolutely amazed at how loud and noisy the Bristol City fans were.

Where I stand at the back of 115, and under the overhang, I only heard them briefly throughout the match. I wrkngly thought they were very quiet.

As we know, the stadium is dreadful for noise to travel around it. Unfortunately this can never be fixed

8000 away fans in SS2 and SS3 sounded impressive on the TV. They are killing the home support in cup games.

they made a bleeding racket, you must have had ear muffs on.

I have a season ticket in ss3 and get moved for the cup games. Was in ss2 in the corner for the Burnley fa cup game and in block 115 lower tier for the brizzle game last night. The way that whole end is set up is plain wrong and is ,in my opinion detrimental to the atmosphere.Needs a total rethink .Acoustics wise Ss3 is where it’s at as The sound carries better.

Yeah, under the overhang you could hardly hear the Bristol City fans but in the second half I moved towards the front and you could hear them loud and clear from there.

For me the South Stand 3rd tier is the best place in the ground to get an atmosphere going because of the high roof which, unlike the old roof is made of material that reflects noise rather than absorbs it. Stick 6000 noisy away fans in SS3 (along with 1600 in SS2) like last night and we're always going to be fighting a losing battle like we were in 115 last night

Some of my thoughts on last night:

- If you weren't there, you can't really whinge about the atmosphere.
- Away fans were very loud, hard to outsing 7,000 fans in the biggest game in their history.
- 115 is the only block that consistently tries to get songs going.
- If YOU don't sing, wherever you are in the ground, how can you expect the atmosphere to improve?
- We will comfortably outsing them when we go to Ashton Gate - that's how it works in the country.

1894 Group are going to organise a singing section for the Basel game. If you're actually bothered about the atmosphere (which you must be, otherwise you wouldn't be on this thread) then pull your finger out and make the effort! If you can't be arsed, stop whinging.

When our player's names were being read out before the game, you could mostly hear booing from Bristol City fans. Most people around me were just chatting or on their phones. Cheer you muppets.

Exactly. We've tried literally everything within our power over the past few years to try and improve the atmosphere and despite some people on this thread claiming it's been a total failure, that's not the case. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

When the opportunity to move into 115 became available as a result of the re-structuring of the away section due to the 3rd tier of the South Stand opening, we pushed it as much as possible and emphasised the point that those wanting to move there should be up for creating an atmosphere so what happens? Some fans moved there with no intention of getting involved and we now have a situation where, somewhat astonishingly, during one home game last season one of our guys was told to stop singing....in the fucking singing section. What also didn't help was that some that were originally planning to relocate there instead relocated again to SS3 to take advantage of the cheaper ST prices.

We've positioned ourselves at the back of the stand but the songs don't always travel well down and across the block due to both the low overhang and not enough people further down the block not putting any legwork in to help the songs carry, so for CL games we've re-positioned ourselves at the front of the stand and despite the best efforts of some of us there (I say some of us because some of those that relocated to the front with us couldn't be arsed joining in for some weird reason) constantly trying to get things going, the middle rows stayed mainly silent so any link with the singers at the back was fragmented and vice versa. Moving to the middle of the block would probably be the best thing to do but there's never enough seating availability to position a block of 70 or so fans there.

We made the controversial decision to use a drum versus Gladbach last season because their fans had battered ours for atmosphere with the aid of their own drums the season before. It wasn't as disastrous as some predicted but one of the guys using it in the first half got a shit load of disgraceful abuse on the concourse at half time. Now we don't have a problem with people not being in favour of using a drum but what we won't have is someone being called a nonce for having the balls to step up and give it a go. No doubt the **** who came out with that has probably never started a song off in their lives.

I was in 115 row L and could hear them loud and clear. They must be rich with the amount of coins they threw down at us must of been the first few rows of second tier, added when they scored a penalty one decided to throw (or maybe drop) a oasis bottle with no lid on that hit an old fella.

Anyway, I think it’s hard to get an atmosphere going when you have 7000 odd fans singing over you as some people simply give up. Even when we sang, it soon died out after 10 seconds.

Also, whoever was in row m with a black leather jacket and city scarf should be ashamed calling Yaya a black bastard.

I don't believe people don't WANT to sing. They once did. It's a great feeling to sing along with thousands.

People don't want to sing ALONE. Getting started is the problem.
If you have reached a critical mass others will join in.
That's easy in a standing terrace where can stand where you want, join your mates and friends.
Starting a song together with your social group is quite easy.

Nothing will improve without standing.
Bristol fans didn't sit I reckon. And they were a group coming with the same intention.
That just isn't the case about home sections. Intentions are very different within a section. Then you need "routines" everybody knows and can join in.
Takes a lot of time to create all that and a huge amount of cooperation from the club.

As for now it's a lost fight. It's so sad really. Missed chances of wonderful moments.

Should be something like this:
- minimum 3,000 safe standing section in the end opposite to guest fans
- close to the pitch, lower part, for togetherness with players and for TV reasons
- 20 quid per ticket
- no opposite fans and opposite colours allowed of course for security reasons
- create a fanbase homepage with a songbook and quality videos
- create a positive philosophy to fully support your club, without humiliating opponents
- enjoy the togetherness
