Sir Howard Bernstein R. I. P

Think it's definitely true that Howard played a leading role in getting the Commonwealth games, building the stadium etc which led to us being an attractive proposition later.

That is very true, but I don't think he would ever have claimed to 'have guided us'. However, Sir Howard was a great of Manchester and certainly helped the club he loved. Manchester will be worse without him.

Wow. That is a real loss. Not just a blue through and through, but a gent. He did the best he possibly could for the club. Listen to his recent interview on David Mooney's podcast. You get an exact idea of who the man was.
Also, just looking at his age, I'm shocked. One year older than me. Actually, born the same year. We none of us know how much time is allotted to us. Isn't that the truth, though?

Oh wow. Really sad news. He was part of our group who went to away games back in the day so there's a personal element in the sadness. Sat behind him and Adrian, one of the other members of the travelling gang at Everton in 2014. We had a good reminisce and laugh about those days, when we spent a lot of effort and ingenuity in avoiding trouble rather than seeking it out, including impersonating a group of deaf mutes on a bus in Newcastle.

He was just a filing clerk in those days but went onto to do great things in the council. Instrumental in rebuilding the city after the IRA bomb, bringing the Commonwealth games here and working with the City ownership on redeveloping East Manchester.

There's a funny story about his knighthood as he was separated, but not divorced, from his first wife Yvonne. She worked with my ex, so knew her quite well. Because they weren't divorced she got the title Lady Bernstein, which she was very proud of, and had it on her chequebook.

Great story, thanks for taking the time to share it with us, on this sad day.

Had the privilege of being on the same plane as Sir Howard going to Lyon and back for the CL match. I wished I'd had the courage to speak to him.
RIP Sir Howard.

RIP sir howard, thank you for contribution and enjoy watching from that great big blue stand in the sky
