If doing what benefits the UK is by getting involved in an illegal war then we have lost all moral authority. We are helping 2 very ugly countries with despicable leaders.

We are also helping and are being helped by allies , who are all being dragged in by a pair of fuckwits . We can’t win

The two wrong answers are going into the conflict with our own attacks alongside the Yanks/Israel, and then obviously siding with Iran. Everything in between is about getting the balance right and it will remain to be seen if the allowing of this further base to be used is still the right path to go down.

I think people on this forum naively don’t realise the pressure he’s under to protect our bases, our allies in the region and to try and do something to stop the impending economic turmoil with the Strait being closed. It’s easy to backseat drive in this scenario and state the Spanish PM is doing it right, when Spain’s situation is completely different to ours: they don’t have permanent military bases in the Middle East, they’ve largely kept out of foreign conflicts there historically, over the past few decades (rightly I must add), and their ties to Middle Eastern countries as their allies, is less than ours is.

It’s much easier for Sanchez to tell Trump to completely fuck off than it is for Starmer. Don’t get me wrong, it is a source of pride for me every time Starmer does say no but he can’t do it every time. This recent decision will play out and if it goes wrong I’ll be the first to say so, not that anyone cares what I think.
