Went to Buxton years ago, might give that a go again.

You'll need an extra toe if you want to fit in.
Thats chapel, with the extra toe! you'll need an extra toe and webbing in between for buxton!
ffs take a coat,if you do go.its at least 5 degrees colder than town up there.

Looking at going out for the day on Saturday. Nowhere too far like. All we want is somewhere we can mooch around, go for a drink and bite to eat and just potter about. Need to get away for the day.
Some friends at work used to go on about Skipton and its market. Supposed to be a few nice pubs there too. Anyone been? If not, or if it's bobbins, can anyone suggest anywhere within the 100 mile mark?

Nice question.

Skipton is wonderful.

You could also consider the Settle to Carlisle railway and Clitheroe has some expert butchers and wine merchants.

Don't go to Buxton, mate. It has one nice area around the Opera House and Pavillion Gardens, and that it isn't much good at this time of year. The shopping area is mostly just charity shops and cafes.

Might seem a bit of an odd suggestion, but have you considered Liverpool?

If you go Buxton/Bakewell way you might want to try Ashbourne.
Loads of Antique shops, interesting buildings and some nice pubs.

Bakewell is very nice , especially in the summer.
Holmfirth ? used go there for a night on the beer ..
Ripon ? nice little city with some decent pubs and great chippy`s

Skipton is supposed to be the gateway to the dales and is rather nice if a little dull in the winter. Apart from my Bakewell suggestion i'd go with mammutly (welcome back pal) and say Liverpool.

Some cracking pubs, great things to see and do and surprisingly really friendly.
