Faair enough, maybe the interpretation of the rules are different from their time.
But when you make a challenge of such recklessness you're basically saying you don't care about the consequences and when the consequence is your studs smashing into someone's face then reckless disregard is so close to intent that to argue there is a difference is just hairsplitting. You just recklessly disregarded the almost inevitable consequences. Edison could have had his jaw smashed, his face sliced open by studs. He could have lost an eye.
Sure - Lineker, Wright and Shearer would have gone for it. And they would all deserve to be sent off. That was a red card in any of the five decades I've been a fan.
