It shouldn't be reduced. It should be extended for a frivolous appeal. It's a ridiculous appeal but I expect them to win it sadly. They'd have no chance it it wasn't one of the media's darlings. If they do win it, it will show the clear bias in the game.

I'd write to them if I knew where, not that it would do any good but it makes my blood boil.

How do we tell what a player's intention is? Surely if a player's intention was to break another player's leg or fracture his skull, land him in hospital or injure him seriously it should be a lifetime ban. But it is impossible to know what exactly the thinking was behind any action in football. And it really doesn't matter: it's what players DO which can injure and so those tackles, fouls etc which are more likely to cause injury are outlawed completely to deter ALL players from doing them. So no-one need concern themselves with what Mane intended, what he actually did risked injuring Ederson seriously and actually did injure him badly enough. So yes, we punish drink drivers to deter all those who would drink and drive: we punish speeding even when no-one is killed or injured for the same reason. We don't concern ourselves with why people drink and drive or speed.
