Sky Sources - Luka Modric to fly to Madrid tomorrow.

I must say I'm a bit surprised Madrid really went through with this transfer. Modric is a good player, but didn't impress me that much last season. Considering how loaded with quality Real are in the midfield I'm not so sure Modric won't find himself on the bench more often than not.

Definitely. And they're sending Sahin out on loan who's a better player. Don't understand why they want him at all.

Different types of players.

Levy is a fucking joke, if I was the owner I'd be furious.. should have just sold high to avb and run the risk of playing against him 2x a year in the league. £13m is a lot of money..

Not that different. Both being deep lying playmakers capable of pushing forward.
Who would he replace in Madrid's midfield?

Ronaldo? Yeah right.
Otzil? No friggin way.
Alonso? No chance of that ever happening.
Khedira? Hardly not.
Di Maria? No.

Kaka? Possibly.

And they also have Granero and Callejón who looks really impressive, so Modric is not one to immediately make the starting XI, he's not an investment for the future... Is he just their back-up to Otzil and Khedira in case they for some reason can't make the team sheet?
And if so, why not keep Sahin and Kaka?

I don't get this one at all. But it's all good, as loosing Modric will make Tottenham weaker.

Not entirely. I'm guessing he's being brought in to play that deep lying role he's been playing at Spurs which is where Nuri plays and both are capable of providing some potency to the attack. I know Modric can play further up the pitch than he did under Harry but Madrid already have a ton of attacking talent in midfield so the move makes very little sense to me.

EDIT: Matt summed it up well.

They've also got Lass who's much better defensively than Modric.

Considering Spurs got Van der vart from Real Madrid for 8 million pounds, this doesnt seem that unfair a deal. Surely madrid would have used that as a bargaining chip.
