Sky TV is going....

Just hang in there Kippax - even by the slim chance taht they do cut you off you'll receive a letter a few days later asking you to come back with 50% off for the next 12 months.

I cancelled mine two years ago and they still contact me now offering huge discounts to join again. I had the full bundle including BB and telephone - i think it cost around £87pm. They tried everything in their power to get me to stay - they basically offered me the full sky package at £27pm and half price broadband and line rental although i still refused.

I now have a blade media box :-)

Now TV do a monthly Sky Sports pass for about £30 a month.

About £1 a day then. Is this something I can watch through the TV? I'll usually have a match on in the background as I mess around at home. It'll be cheaper than one good pub session.

I cord cut ages ago.

Netflix + Amazon Prime + WWE Network + iplayer/ITVPlayer/4oD + Youtube + streaming and downloading sorts me and the missus no issue, and it does it for about £80 a month cheaper than what we were paying.

This is the only option. Just look at the investment coming into datacentre's now for cloud stuff and on demand services. Very soon legit services will surpass torrents as the main file sharing methods.
Look at the shows amazon and netflix are churning out. There are some of us who have and can provide 0sec releases from the warez scene to if you can't wait to test that game to see if it is worth buying or app worth paying for etc. Failing that join a good private torrent site, which is just as good if all you want is content and not a lifestyle as it were.

These android boxes are not going away and access to content will only rise, more servers = more stuff, it is all geared towards Damocles setup.

I believe this year these dreamboxes and such will be high up on pressie lists and i know personally some smart guys working on building networks for streaming iptv style over dark lines (unused fibre lines + bw). Not looking into this stuff would be akin to HMV fucking up and not getting in on digital streaming and mp3 when they had the world at their feet.

So.....

I went online and chatted to a person, within seconds I got a call from a Scottish gentleman, very pleasant.

I am currently paying £87 per month for Sky TV and HD excluding Movies, and my phone line and broadband. I told him I wanted to cancel, he asked which service I would like to cancel which put me on the spot as I hadn't thought about my phone and internet. I just thought sod it! Cancel the lot please, He asked the normal questions about why I would like to cancel and I basically said affordability. He then asked me a closed question, "If I could reduce your payment would you be interested?" of which I replied yes! he. He went away and came back with £10 off, I said thank you but £2.50 a week discount is not going to change my mind.

So on the 18th January, I am going to be with out SKY TV, no phone line or internet lol.

Can anyone give me any good phone line and broadband options?

I'm gonna be in exactly the same boat as you mate in Feb,however mine is split at the moment,I have Sky for my TV,but I also have BT for phone line, broadband and that obviously throws in BT sport, which I watch through my Sky platform.

I have the world package with Sky,all HD and pay £78 a month, like I say expires in Feb,and also can pay upto £40 for BT,so it's pretty expensive set up I have here, must admit though the broadband is very good up here, with that infinity, but gonna have to make some big decisions in Feb,so i'll keep a look on this thread to see how you get on after 18 Jan

Yeah, you just connect the NOWTV box to the TV with the HDMI cable supplied and login. Alternatively you can login directly to the website via laptop/tablet/smartphone.

If you want to cancel tell them you've been kicked out by the Mrs as she caught you in bed with her brother....cancelled within minutes no attempts to sell anything to me.

Nb I wasn't kicked out and Mrs Moon doesn't have a brither

I Cancelled Sky around a decade ago now.
A friend has it at her house still and as soon as I told her she was in a cabled coverage area and shown her how to use a Torrent Client she cancelled Sky.
She would be willing to use a legitimate service but Sky take the piss on prices....

This is why I cancelled, not because I refuse to pay, it's just simple - I'd rather spend that £600 per year to Murdoch on my seasoncard @ City.
I just wanted sky Sports, why the fuck am I paying for Simpsons, MTV and all this shit when I just want the fucking football?

I have an NHL Pass, watch any NHL match legally via their streaming service.

As soon as The English Prem league get their ass into 2015 and offer a similar service then I'll happily jump on some legal service.

We're just about at our 12 month Sky free anniversary and we haven't looked back.

There are other threads about alternatives so I wont bother you with them but whatever discount they offer think on this. In the last 12 months of not paying for Sky TV, BT Sport and HD pack (no internet or phone included) we will have save £1,004 in subscriptions (£87 a month according to our last bill) now we did splash out on the 'alternative solution' - a whole £75 but I reckon the continued savings will feel even better in year 2.

PS We also get to watch more channels than you official subscribers including live Saturday games too.

I'm going one further and rescinding my TV license. I like the BBC but can't justify 150 quid a year for the odd episode of Motorway Cops or that nice history girl on BBC 4.

So, I have binned the aerial cable. And as we all know, the lack of an RF connection is conclusive proof that I won't be watching any live broadcasts, not even on Iplayer. Or Acestream.

*cough*

Did I say Acestream? Silly me, I seem to have used a word that doesn't exist!

I was on a half price for 9 months package. Rang up to cancel when that was about to end, as I wasn't prepared to pay the full cost. Was on hold for about 40 minutes, until they finally decided to answer. I told them that, due to financial circumstances, I had to cancel as I couldn't afford the full price They tried various (poor) efforts to keep me hooked up, which I steadfastly refused. That ibcluded getting rid of the sports and movies, which is the main reason I have Sky in the first place. The lady then reluctantly put me through to their cancellations section, I then spoke to a bloke on there who put me on hold for a couple of minutes while he "talked to his supervisor". He came back and said that, due to me being a customer for 12 years on and off, they were willing to offer me another 9 months at half price as I was a valued customer. So I'm with them until next august when the whole process starts again. I can't remember when I last paid the full whack for their stations. Currently paying somewhere around €47 for the sports and movies channels with the HD pack.
Ha Ha.
Moi aussi jimbo.
My nine month half price package ends this month.
Thanks for the advice.

I'm such an idiot!!! Still paying over £100 a month for sky tv, broadband and phone - job for today - getting on that phone and getting a better deal!

Sky were doing a decent one mate. Free unlimited broadband for a year, you just paid for the phone line. They also threw in a £100 M and S voucher as well. After a year the broadband costs £7 a month. I'd look and see if they're still doing this deal

I am cancelling my Virgin package on monday I am keeping 50 meg broadband and I have my android box and as it is running smoothly I will tell them I have a £25 limit
if they want to throw in anything for free that will be ok
After 3 months if I have to go back I will go on Mates rates as a new customer as one of my mates works there
