It seems that after every loss, the problem is always placed on the strikers. I am perplexed that almost nobody sees that it's not the players who are the problem. The problem is this slow tempo of play, it allows teams to get back in defense and just watch us pass it endlessly until we lose possession which gives them an opportunity to score off of counter attacks. NOt to mention that our strikers are forced to play with their backs to the goal, or try to take on multiple defenders in order to create a scoring chance. So please, stop with the bullshit!!! Start Guidetti??? Are you freaking kidding me? You really think the strikers are the problem?
Did Pope Benedict issue an edict declaring Mancini a saint that he can't be criticized for his poor tactics? WTF people!

I agree, our problem is that we take things too slowly, most our goals this season have come from doing the exact opposite.

I love what Mancini has done for the club, and I do think he saw this coming (Hazard, De Rossi, RVP) so hopefully in jan we can sell some players and replace them with someone to change up this glacier.

Though for the here and now I wonder how much we can really change the tempo? Too many of our players seem fundementally slow, or in the case of Yaya slow for 70 out of the 90 minutes.

The strikers have been a bit wasteful this season. Aguero and Tevez missed loads at Newcastle. Aguero missed a great chance today. Everyone has been poor and inconsistent so far this season. Both the temp and forwards are at fault.

It's solely the strikers fault. The defence is just about doing there jobs i.e keeping clean sheets and letting very few goals in. I agree the midfield is playing too slow but its the strikers jobs to score it's that simple and if supposed world class strikers can't score from 12 shots on target then its their fault.

apart from the guidetti bit because i think he'd do a better job than mario, i agree.

the gaps between defense, mid and attack are also an issue. i put this down to lack of pace.

we often play long ball, to tevez and aguero who are small then stop when dzeko comes on. we either do that or play slow lethargic build up.

barcelona play the possession build up but pass with conviction and urgency when they need to. real madrid and dortmund attack on the counter with sheer pace, we pass sideways slowly and it wont work, i bet sunderlands defenders loved it. we need to attack as a unit and pass and move twie as quick.

january needs pace on both flanks and in the middle.

edit; January will be our most important window since the first sheik day/night with robinho IMO

You're quite correct, Bos. Look at the roster Mancini has constructed - no pace in midfield, no width, just narrow formations which play right into the hands of opposing managers who instruct their players to park the bus against us. How many real scoring opportunities did we have today? Kompany hit the bar, but other than that, maybe only Sergio had a decent chance, but Mignolet came out smartly and took all the angle away from him.

We won't win the League again, even against a frankly poor United side that cannot defend and has no presence in central midfield. Unlike AJ, Sinclair has pace but no end-product, yet wouldn't it make some sense to play him with Dzeko in matches like these? At least he has the pace to advance an attack at something other than stroll-the-ball-up-the-pitch speed. We play sloooow because we do not have the players to play with real pace and because we have a manager who is eternally wedded to the style of play in Italy, the slowest major league on the planet.

The one wild-card we have in our squad who might transform our style of play is Balotelli, but he is of little use to us because Mancini is still attempting to guide him through childhood issues.

I like our style of slow tempo and possession but not for 90 minutes..if we pick and choose the times we play that way and combine that with a little more direct play sometimes it would give us a chance to score without having 11 defenders behind the ball..a few times today we were own the break and we stopped and gave Sunderland the perfect amount of time they need to have every player come back me defend..it's almost like we're inviting teams to camp in the box...I know Chelsea and united face a similar problem that most Bpl teams play 11 behind the ball but they don't struggle with it as often as we do which feels like every week now cuz our style of play is slow enough to give our opponents time to come back..we shud play this way when the defenses are already back but if we're on the break or when opponents don't have Everyman back we shud pick up the tempo and take advantage of the few times we don't have a wall of bodies blocking every inch of the box...

Aguero and Tevez have been outstanding, Balotelli has been ripping shit up, its all Dzekos fault that we are not scoring goals.
