Slow Build Up/ Tempo

Aguero and Tevez have been outstanding, Balotelli has been ripping shit up, its all Dzekos fault that we are not scoring goals.

At his height, Edin should be scoring for fun from the bench, or even the stands...!!

I think it's classic Italian mentality.

If Mancini wants the tempo increasing he would have told the players by now, but it looks like he hasn't so it's likely it's a philosophy Mancini is happy with.

I do think we need to up the pace a bit but for me the problems are the fact Mancini's philosophy is built to have wingers but he refuses to utilise such player, we have too many 'central' players whether it being in a striking position or creative position.

Real Madrid are the perfect example of how a 4-2-3-1 formation should work - Ronaldo and Di Maria as your wingers, Ozil as your creative man behind the center forward, in this case Benzema or Higuain.

We have too many players wanting to play in the same space, the equivalent of what we do if Madrid was to do it would be playing Modric and Callejon on the wings with Ozil in the middle and then whoever you want as your CF.

Just does not look right??

That's our issue in my opinion.

Not only all that, Sam, but after systematically weeding out all players who are wingers or have pace, he can only field narrow formations which plays right into the hands of those who park the bus against us. Even Xavi, Iniesta and Messi cannot dribble through a picket fence, but that is Plan A, B, C, etc. for Mancini, so expect to see us frustrated time and again.

I like our style of slow tempo and possession but not for 90 minutes..if we pick and choose the times we play that way and combine that with a little more direct play sometimes it would give us a chance to score without having 11 defenders behind the ball..a few times today we were own the break and we stopped and gave Sunderland the perfect amount of time they need to have every player come back me defend..it's almost like we're inviting teams to camp in the box...I know Chelsea and united face a similar problem that most Bpl teams play 11 behind the ball but they don't struggle with it as often as we do which feels like every week now cuz our style of play is slow enough to give our opponents time to come back..we shud play this way when the defenses are already back but if we're on the break or when opponents don't have Everyman back we shud pick up the tempo and take advantage of the few times we don't have a wall of bodies blocking every inch of the box...

Then why aren't we working on it in training ? The problem is so obvious and its been going on all season.

I wholeheartedly disagree that we need to buy anyone in January, except maybe a winger to replace Adam Johnson. Our existing players can play at a faster tempo without any problems. Mancini is too stubborn with his tactics. It seems that Yaya agrees. I just saw this article, comments made prior to the Sunderland debacle. http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/s...s-yaya-toure-calls-for-tactics-change?cc=5901

"Whereas perhaps we caught a lot of teams by surprise last season, this year our opponents know how we play," Toure is quoted as saying in The Sun.

"Sometimes we have to change our system to try to break teams down. The other teams and players can analyse how we play, study our systems and styles and work out ways to stop us. Even sides who are near the bottom of the table are more than capable of making it difficult.

Already reported on here, mate.

We are playing virtually the exact same system as last season. The strikers ARE the problem, nothing to do with width, pace or any other bollocks.

We are creating plenty of chances every single game, it is simply the fact that Aguero, Tevez and the rest are ALL going through a shitty patch and they need a rocket up their arses because they are costing us points BIG TIME.

I think some people want there to be something else that's the problem, there isn't!!! It's very simple, none of the strikers have got close to their levels of last season. Bollock the lot of them and if they don't shape up ASAP then sign 2 in Jan and ship 2 of the useless bastards out and drop the rest.
