Smoke & Mirrors

Good post, but you didn't mention Berlusconi's media interests. I believe he owns 80% of Italian media, he's the Murdoch of Italy. A large part of ADUG's plan is to promote their country to the rest of the world, and to promote themselves as second-to-none business men. There was a very good reason they bought in Cook, he knows how to turn Man City into a world famous brand. Signing big names is a part of establishing that brand and ultimately giving ADUG a global media platform.
People who talk about Man city ruining football with big money signings are idiots. CL football is coveted by every club because of the money as much as the spectacle. That 'other' club made £90 mil from the CL last year. The league table and a table of PL clubs revenues is scarily similar, and more than anything it reflects future positions. Our new signings understand this.

The prospect of signing all these fantastic players is mouth watering for any city fan. I read that Daily Mail article last night and literally couldn't sleep for hours thinking about how exciting next season is going to be. But when all is said and done the PL is about big business, billionaires haven't got involved for a laugh. Super rich investors and massive investments is the reality of the PL,when you acknowledge this you start to realise what an excellent position City are in.

Khaldoon is no mug. Neither is the Sheik, or Cook.

Our owners are at the top of the business world. They multi-billion pound deals all the time, 1000X more complex than dealing with a football club.

The know all the tricks, they will always be one step ahead.

We are the luckiest fans in the World.

Don't expect for one minute, City to turn round in Jan and go, "Shit, never mind we gave it a good shot". The owner will have been pissed off someone said no to him, he will get what he wants. Maybe not Kaka, but he will just make up for it in other deals.

We will have done verbal agreements with a lot of clubs, as every club in the World is scared of entering a bidding war with us as they will lose 100% of the time.

Barry was out of nowhere, expect to see a lot of other deals done exactly the same way

You're right about the media interests of Berlusconi too. This is a powerful man, and right wing politically. A few years ago (can't remember when), he was being investigated for corruption for lining his own pocket and diverting money away from local towns and villages in Italy. The question is: What does the Sheikh know about this? Could the Sheikh offer a back hander here, a back hander there? With the promise of keeping his mouth shut? Berlusconi's already had dealings with another Sheikh, one Saudi Prince Al -Waleed bin Talal of Saudi Royal Family. These men are the elite of the banking, financial, oil & media world. Our Sheikh could quite easily put pressure on Burlesconi to either a) promise to keep what he knows quiet if he gives us Kaka or other high profile player, or b) bribe Berlusconi with a promise of higher financial rewards for himself and his business interests or for the interests of Italy in the Middle East. It may not be about Kaka at all, but others players Hughes has his eye on. The whole thing could generally be a case of 'I'll scratch your back, you scratch mine', because when it comes to power, our Sheikh is the man. And when he is the owner of the new kids on the block (City, not the pouting, pre-teen girlie moulding boy band), Berlusconi might well realise that if he doesn't comply with the Sheikh's wishes, he may well not have a pot to piss in some time in the near future. Football aside, this is where our power really is. We could well have him by the balls. And not just him, either. Every club in the world knows that City are the richest club on the planet with the best potential to rock the apple cart. The Sheikh doesn't even have to appraoch A.C. Milan. He could just go directly to the owner himself, like a true red telephone hotline to his private desk.

Another theory could be this: we intentionally went to Milan to make a cock up of the kaka bid, just to make us look like idiots in the eyes of the world media. Then, Cook comes out and says 'Milan bottled it', putting psychological pressure on Berlusconi, knowing that Real would come in with an offer now. Then, with us still being far more powerful financially than Real, we pop up and bid again, but this time it's for real. And if we pull it off, who looks stupid then? Not us. Because then we really would have arrived on the world stage, blowing both Real and Milan out of the water for the whole world to see.

This is all theory, of course, and it may sound like the plot of a James Bond film, but this is how the power elite operate. It's all smoke & mirrors.

The biggest obstacle we have is convinving Kaka (or any other high profile player) that we mean business in football. If we can sell players the project, and prove that we can handle the 'big boys' and indeed take the piss out of them in the process, then people like Kaka ( a man of faith) may be, just may be, convinced. All we need is ONE huge signing. Once we have that, everyone else follows.

*takes another drag on the pipe*
