smoking at games

i wasnt there. all he had was a citycard given to him. if he wasnt told who would he know the policy???

he should know, i cant imagine anyone else on this board who would think it ok to smoke inside the ground (some might still do it in the toilets/spirals but they know what they are doing is wrong)

he wouldnt go into a cinema and smoke (as you put earlier) or a shop or restaurant

but as said earlier you can go to an away match, stand up and smoke!
if the fella is a first time visitor and may not even be a city fan, why should they be chucked out over a mistake
the steward could insist it is put out, end of issue
or put no smoking signs on the backs of seats in full view
not just feck someone out the door..

you can go to an away match and smoke, but you're still doing it at your own risk and i have seen people chucked out at away games for smoking

could they have just warned him, yes

no smoking signs on the seats would be a waste of time/money, there are enough warning signs there already

were they right in ejecting him, imo yes

you can go to an away match and get away with smoking....
the best he can do in the situation is grovel and apologise, pleading ignorance is no defence and the powers that be have heard it all before.

rules is rules.

Some little Hitler though being a complete jobsworth.

But it is not just rules from the club it is the country law - I don't understand why anyone gets upset about this because it is 90mins or 120 tops without a smoke. If I smoked and felt the urge during a game, it would not be in my seat.

There are tannoy announcements, at every game, explicitly telling you that smoking is banned. Plus, you know, it's THE LAW, as in legally you can't smoke there/ No-one is stood at the turnstiles telling the fans "now, remember, you can't sneak a knife in and stab anyone in the eye" either but people know not to do it. The severity of my "example" is clearly far greater than smoking, but the fact both are not allowed is the same, and it isn't rocket science to understand the law. It's hardly something that City, and only City, impose. Does he go to the pub and smoke? Is this because there's a doorman telling him on entry "you can't smoke in here" or is it because he KNOWS smoking isn't allowed, because it's been all over the news for the last 2 years?

As for claiming smoking in your seat is somehow not as bad as smoking in the toilets, again that's just wrong. You shouldn't smoke in either location , but in your seat means those sat to your right, left, in front and behind HAVE to stay put in their seat and allow you to blow smoke all over them.

No sympathy, no empathy, got exactly what he deserved, for his actions and his idiocy.

if it is that non-tolerant i think every steward should be saying "NO SMOKING" to each fan at the turnstile and aisles

for someone to make a genuine mistake, as a 1st time visitor and get turfed out is pretty harsh

Correct me if I am wrong but is this not a Government law? It is not the club or the council - it is the law of the country. However I maybe wrong.

inside the stadia is goverment law, outside it will be council policy i would assume.

its been law for the last 5 years or so that you cannot smoke in a building of any type even if you have never been in it before
