Smoking

I'm quite surprised that so many people are that arsed. I don't smoke, I don't particularly like inhaling others' smoke but putting up with it for a couple of minutes every couple of weeks when I have a slash at the match barely registers on my "things to be pissed off about" list if I'm being honest. When it does, I will know I have cracked it and my life is as close to perfect as it is ever likely to get.

Plus it's illegal...

Bingo

I think it's quite possible just not to be arsed about certain things, illegal or not. If we really all cared about illegalities we'd be phoning the police every day giving then the reg.no of a large proportion of cars that travel down the fast lane of the motorway. Bit of perspective required with regard to what constitutes criminality and when we choose to turn a blind eye I think. We all choose to ignore when it suits or when it's convenient. It's a necessity, otherwise we'd never get anything done and would probably lead a very miserable life.

So if people are so bothered, why does no one ever say anything to smokers at the stadium? I no longer smoke and haven't for a while but no one ever seemed to say anything. Or even appeared to be arsed.

I'm about 5 10 and slightly built and couldn't punch my way out of a paper bag. Me thinks that approaching the smokers would end up with me getting a kicking.

As someone who may or may not have smoked in the stadium, if at any point another fan asked me to extinguish the cigarette, regardless of how many others were smoking, I would have done so.

You might but I would of imagined a lot would say no and either start something or mouth off. Hence why the stewards are there to be contacted about issues

I tell you what..fuck showsec..let's get the police involved..or maybe do a sting operation..MI5..we can tail the ringleaders back to their homes..

Dawn raids the lot..maybe catch them with 200 benson & hedges stuffed in their mattress

My dad got lung cancer from passive smoking. Never smoked in his life but worked with people like you who felt it was ok to do what they liked and fuck anyone else

It's a £50 fine for smoking in an enclosed space btw..and you could possibly argue if you smoked near the pitch it's not enclosed as the 'roof' has to be more than 50% enclosed..yes maybe a moot point as it is a private business and they can ban smoking as they see fit

Just saying it's not exactly the height of criminality some on here will have you believe

Nobody goes to jail for smoking tobacco

Fair enough, I was kind of (perhaps wrongly) under the impression that because nobody in the toilets around 117 ever complained in person, then they weren't bothered. If you look around the toilets in those areas most people are at it anyway. In other parts of the ground i've encountered differing attitudes, but to me its just kind of unofficially accepted that those bogs are smokers bogs. I still go in and out now, not smoked for almost a year and it doesn't bother me.

Agreed, - its not 'exactly the height of criminality' but it is a crime. The law is there to protect people like my dad who would not have got terminal lung cancer if the law had been in place when he worked in a place full of smokers. Just because you don't agree with the law and think it's petty, doesn't mean it should be ignored. Sorry for the stance - but it's caused a lot of heartache in our lives. A man who never smokes dies of passive smoking and people still moan because the law tries to prevent it happening to others

Radon and pollution are all attributes to lung cancer..I'm sorry about your dad but it's unlikely you know for definite that he died from passive smoking

Ahh. So your a doctor too?? It was confirmed by consultants that it was caused through passive smoking

I don't need a lecture..my old man died from a 'smoking related' illness

15,000 people a year die of alcohol related illness in the uk..they still serve alcohol at the Etihad

2,500 asbestos deaths

2,000ish road accident deaths

1 in every 11 deaths in the UK is related to obesity

Like I said..I'm sorry about your dad..trust me..my dads death and the birth of my child made me give up 4 years ago for good

But I still won't impose my views of it on others..or condemn those who choose to smoke..or take drugs..or have a few pints..

I'm more likely to get run over by a car than die from passive smoke

I'll take my chances
