Smoking

They allow smoking in bars in Germany as long as they’re not serving food. For me, it was always part and parcel of being in a pub but, then again, Roy Castle died of lung cancer despite never smoking in his life. He played trumpet in bars where people smoked all night.
I knew two musicians who played trumpet and saxophone respectively in smoky clubs from late 1940’s through to 1960’s. Both non-smokers, both died aged early sixties from throat/lung cancer. Nobody knew about the dangers of secondary smoking in those days.

I was never a massive smoker in the end it was only when I went out
Plus one a day before I went to bed for some reason !
Planned to give when the ban came in. Had a couple of blips at first. My last cig was July 17th 2007

Good job really I did as these days the Mrs is a Macmillan Lung cancer nurse.
You don’t want her knocking on your door
Fact !!!

I quit smoking in 1993 after 4 or 5 serious - but failed - attempts to stop.
Used to love it, started at school and then smoked heavily when I started work - most of my mates at the time were lads of Irish descent who worked on the sites and were big smokers and drinkers - we all smoked Park Drive plain ! My Dad died in his late sixties of multiple smoking-related diseases (circulatory problems, bowel cancer and finally his lungs packed in) He drank like a fish too. I sat by the phone overnight waiting to be summoned to the MRI as he was close to death (lived 80 miles away at the time) and I thought Fuck this…I’m never going to smoke again. He lived a few months longer. Not easy for the first couple of months but did it. I’m 67 now and in good health (touch wood) but so so many of the lads I grew up with, the smokers, the drinkers, those who did tough physical jobs in all weathers, are dead. Before their time and down to smoking more than anything else. Fucking tragic - they never thought it’d get them.
If anyone is hesitating about stopping - don’t. It’s never too late to quit…one of the best things I ever did.

Nothing worse than getting in the lift at work just after someone has been in it after having a cig

I know it's an addiction, but is there ever actually a buzz from smoking, before it becomes an addiction?

Walked past a guy driving a nice Audi whilst smoking with the windows shut, just made me think it was such a waste of a nice car to have it stink of smoke!

Can only imagine he smokes in the house as well which just knocks me sick
