Rumoured Manchester United target Wesley Sneijder has been spotted at Manchester Airport 349 times in the transfer window – according to Twitter.
Hundreds of people have tweeted sightings of the Dutch playmaker, heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford.
But airport bosses say that the Tweets have all apparently been mistaken, stating not a single one of the sightings has been confirmed.
One fan posted a message on the micro-blogging site this morning on transfer deadline day, to reveal he had clocked the Inter Milan player at the airport's Little Chef.
But anyone familiar with the terminals will know that there isn't a Little Chef at the airport.
The airport tweeted: “So today is #TransferDeadlineDay.
“Not that that we are counting, but Sneijder has been "spotted" @manairport 349 times so far this summer.”
A spokesman said other footballers had also been apparently 'seen' at the airport, including Brazil legends Ronaldinho and Kaka – but none of the sightings were genuine.
He added: “If you added up the value of all the players who have been apparently spotted here then they'd be worth more than the entire City squad.”
The Reds have been linked with 27-year-old Inter Milan star Sneijder throughout the summer.
United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has been coy about the transfer publicly and the player has now said that the move won't happen.
Sneijder’s £35m fee and his astronomical salary of £250,000-a-week are understood to have been the stumbling blocks throughout.
If the transfer is to go ahead, there will need to be a confirmed sighting at Manchester Airport soon as the transfer window closes at 11pm tonight.
