I don’t think there should have been that much hassle. I think your cousin could have transferred his ticket to you and then you could have swiped your nephew in at the turnstile.My cousin who I sit with couldn’t go on Saturday, he rung me at 1pm as I was on my way to the ground in my car. I was 10 mins away from my nephew. In the past I would have gone to my cousins house to pick up his card and then pick up my nephew on route.
But then I thought about the hassle of creating him an account or getting my cousin to transfer a ticket so an eight year old spent his Saturday stuck inside playing city on FIFA instead of watching the real thing.
That is sad.
The club and the Premier League will lose a generation of younger match going casual fans with this new system then insist on using.
FWIW I’ve asked anyone I might pass a spare ticket on to to get a free City account. If they don’t / can’t then that makes things more difficult if you have problems at the turnstile. That said, the supervisors make sure everyone with a ticket gets in. I wouldn’t try to get a spare for an adult (different to your situation) who couldn’t be bothered creating a City account
