So what do we need in the summer....

Why are people saying we need a RB? Our RB is one of the best around, one of our best and most consistent players and, despite only playing as a RB for 15 months, looks like he’s played there his whole life.
I think we need a young RB with high potential but only as a back up for Nunes. He's been overplayed this season and we run the risk of burning him out.

An athletic, mobile midfield.
We were given a chasing tonight in there by a very quick side.
I agree with the need for a dynamic midfield next year but let’s not lose sight of the fact that tonight a team that played 3 games in 9 days was given a chasing by a team who had 10 days rest.

We’d need ‘double’ strength Liverpool inhalers to overcome that, whoever was in midfield.

Never mind getting more players in - figuring out where Reijnders, Marmoush and Gonzalez fit into all this would be a start.

Bernardo, Stones, Ake less so massive loss and not clear who will step up to provide continuity we have had since Kompany, Silva, Yaya Toure et al days.
A new manager might see something different in them.

If we could only sign 1 player all summer Elliot Anderson is the man I'd want.

As for others - depends who's out the door. A right back would seem sensible.

Anderson and another CM.
Maybe another if Kova or Nico G leaves.
A RB, I’m not convinced by Nunes but regardless he needs competition for his place.
Maybe a centre back, even if Ake stays him and Dias are now injury prone.
A right winger who can create and score goals.
Then there’s a good chance we’ll need a keeper and a striker with Trafford and Marmoush sounded like they want out.
Though a new manager might change Marmoush’s mind if he promises him more minutes.
Then it also depends if we decide to cash in on Rodri if he’s not signing a new deal, then he’ll need replacing.
We’ve got quite a few inconsistent players who we’ll be hoping come good or they’ll need replacing too.
Poor recruitment really.
Too many players who ‘might’ be good enough.
A big summer spending spree paid for by our rivals when we get compensation for accusing our owner of fraud.

I would go for Morgan Gibbs-White. I think Cole Palmer may move. I have doubts over Rodri's fitness. Perhaps the World Cup will do him good. He came back in 2026 but he did not recover his form.

Do we trust Cherki? I do not. Note that Pep did not start him at the FA Cup Final or tonight. Why didn't Foden start tonight? Bernardo will be gone. All the doubts are in midfield.

We finished up with a decent season out of Nunes but he should be a back-up RB, at best.

If Gonzales can't get near the squad over Kovacic, it's time he went. Personally, I'd rather Kova went with Bernardo and Stones and we bring in Anderson.

Savinho should be given a free transfer; sell Marmoush and Reinders and either drag an Academy player or 2 into the squad or buy 2 new players who can trap a ball and shoot, as the latter 2 are very poor at that.

I guess we keep Ait Nouri for another season even though I personally don't rate him. We need Reiss back and 4 or 5 top quality good 'uns signed.

Sorted! But, my God, we've signed some very average players in the last few years....and we've still got Grealish and Phillips on the books.

- A dynamic box to box midfielder. If not Anderson, then Enzo Fernandes.
- a dynamic attacking midfielder. Tonali or Gibbs-White
- A productive, fast breaking winger
- A better 2nd striker than we currently have
- A fit and rejuvenated Phil Foden.

A new midfield. Feel like we genuinely need 2 players to replace Bernardo, he was an ever present, never rested, always performs, we are drastically short in midfield with him gone. I'd throw whatever it takes st PSG to get Joao Neves if it was in any way doable. He's the guy.

After that it's just replacing the departing. Pep going puts a spanner in the works as players may decide to want to leave because he is going, players who may have been up for sale under Pep, maresca might want to keep and give a chance and peripheral players may feel like they've got a second chance under a new manager so I'm not really expecting widespread changes. Could be a few unexpected ones though.

Gone 10 years without having the issue of dealing with what a new manager might want so it's going to be a much tougher window. Add in a world cup getting in the way, we lose the appeal of Pep being here, we're not champions. Expect the transfer forum might be a little spicier this summer. Viana needs to come up with an all timer window.
