Solo Travelling

With a wife n 3 kids , any sort of foreign solo travel is a no, though i do fancy a little 2/3 day hike, somewhere in the uk.

I say i fancy it, id either love it and find a new self or hate it as im not overly good in my own company

It's not for everyone, but I've done it a lot and most of the time is great. You can see what's around the next corner if you want, instead of having to find a toilet because someone has to pee.

It's also nice to travel with other people (if you travel well together) but it's a different experience.

It’s great. Currently in Tenerife on my own and will be in Mexico next week on my own.
Missus is fucking fuming but that’s just an added bonus..

In total awe of people that can just up and trot off on their volition for adventures new. Same with people that can walk into a public house, grab a pint and then spend inordinate amounts of time examining the coving. I wouldnt know where to put my hands or what to look at whilst tickleing my frothy pint of Shipyard.

I like to talk an awful lot, but traveling alone is not something I could do, so more power to the elbow to all the solo adventurers among you.

The funny thing about solo travelling is you are very rarely on your own. I often, when staying in hostels, used to get up early and creep out just to get time by myself.

I also went travelling with friends, but I found people less likely to approach you when already with someone. It felt like you was missing out, sometimes on new experiences.

Just to echo others I probably would not bother with Thailand now. Not a criticism but if you want a sense of being free spirited, off the beaten track Thailand, in a lot of areas, is too well set up for travellers.

I had an amazing 6 months in Indonesia and visited places, even in Sumatra and Java, where it felt a bit more real. Great times, hopefully someone invents a time machine and sends me back to my 20s.

The general advice seems to be that your first solo trip should not be a huge 6 month wander into the unknown and to do plenty of planning.
With that in mind, I've spent the last 2 days sorting everything out for my first solo adventure and tomorrow I am getting the 10.30 tram into Manchester.
