Ask him how Liverpool were doing before Shankly took over and doubled the club record transfer fee to sign Ian St John.

Then of course there are all their home grown players from that great 70s side.
Kevin Keegan, Emlyn Hughes, Steve Heighway, John Toshack and Ray Clemence were all bought and paid for.

You can also remind him that we won the FA cup before they did and a European trophy before they did.

They spent more than us in the summer.

All of these expensive flops associated with City are in the past, e.g. Adebayor, Robinho, Santa Cruz. Our current team, money wise, isn't unusual for a team second in the league.

This is where we are up too, the bloke is a spanner and works in tech at the same place as me, could handle him but really want to put him to shame!! He thinks he knows everything abou football, and always gives me shit about City.

You could ask him how a 'small club' managed to win the FA Cup three times before mighty Liverpool won it once, and how we managed to win a European trophy before they did. You might also ask him what Liverpool's record attendance is, as I am pretty sure it's well below this 'small club's' record.

Tell him to name one player in our current first eleven who is an expensive flop. There isn't one.

We pay 25 milion for a World Cup winner and one of the best technical football players in the world in David Silva. They pay 35 million for an unproven, inexperienced fat geordie.
