Its certainly not the majority, i think if push came to shove you would see that the nation want the royal family, i for one are extremely proud to have the Queen as our monarch, and i will be when Charles or William are king. The loony left like to shout louder and think its the view of the nation.Couldn't give a fuck about this story to be honest, but I suppose it gives the majority of the British public to be angry about something. 40% of them will probably blame it on immigrants as well.
The Royal Family (or specifically the Queen) does have power to bring about change. Isn't it like 79% of the country supports the Monarchy? I presume any of them (bar the Queen maybe due to dictatorial power that could bring) can run for Prime Minister? She may seem like just a figurehead that only uses power on the "advise" of Parliament etc. but that power written into law, and the support she has, gives her the power to be a tyrant if she wasn't more interested in doing her knitting or whatever she does. That's why if ever someone sought dictatorial power for themselves in this country, they'd either need the head of state to go along with it (very unlikely), or they'd have to murder all the Royal family a la the Bolsheviks.
They just enjoy it as it is, they don't give a shit about their people that are suffering whilst dickhead politicians, corps/bankers cream everything they can for themselves. Point is, if they had the morals they like everyone to think they have, any of them would use what power they can to make the country/the world a better place.
knock it down and build some flats. We should make a few quid and the money could go to the food banks and homeless shelters. its not like they have nowhere else to live is it.
So how many jobs would 350m quid create in building social housing across the country or hospitals or homeless shelters? Rather than on repairing one large house in London?
As long as Liz funds it from her 15% sovereign grant I don't have a problem with that ( alternatively she could even increase revenue by allowing more visitors to the Palace or flog off a couple off assets from her 10bn portfolio). Simples. As another poster has put, Manchester town hall is going through similar costs to improve.
There are many instances where you could say the same about spending money on council houses, rather than one large historic building.
How much do you think the French spend on maintaining their historic landmarks?
Anti-royalists are getting upset because it's the queen's house, but you really need to think about the building itself and what it means to the country.
It's a price worth paying for me as I value history.
The Monarch will be paying for these repairs. As long as Liz funds it from her 15% sovereign grant I don't have a problem with that ( alternatively she could even increase revenue by allowing more visitors to the Palace or flog off a couple off assets from her 10bn portfolio). Simples.
