Buckingham Palace is to undergo a 10-year refurbishment costing the taxpayer £369m, the Treasury has announced.

The Queen will remain in residence during the work, to begin next April.

Ageing cables, lead pipes, wiring and boilers will be replaced, many for the first time in 60 years, owing to fears about potential fire and water damage.

Tony Johnstone-Burt, Master of the Queen's Household, said phased works offered the "best value for money" while keeping the palace running.

Apparently our Liz is having a make over at her place

Buckingham Palace to undergo 'essential' £370m refurbishment

It makes me so proud to think despite the NHS being on its arse, people on benefits are getting a £30 per week cut and of course a £25 billion whole in the budget thanks to brexit we can always find money for our queenie god bless her. It's heart breaking to think that her and Phil and the rest of the family has been living in squalor for so long (I think I'm going to have a Wayne Bridge moment now and cry!!!).

I'd have thought you would be made up that there's some money going in to much needed council house refurbishment.

I wonder how much she pays in bedroom tax.

Gonna be quite a bit - there's 50odd state and guest bedrooms and 180odd bedrooms for staff! Dickie Arbiter (BBC always wheel out Dickie when there's some royal news!) said it was long overdue. Seems to be a similar cock up to Manchester Town Hall - neither maintained to a reasonable level until it takes a fraction of a billion pounds to make them safe!

So what?...The Politbureau are proposing a £330 million upgrade to Manchester Town Hall....whilst pleading poverty and cutting my bin collections obv.

Is a good idea to maintain one of the most famous buildings in the world, not to mention the jobs it will create.

Maybe if they opened it up for tourists for more than about a month a year, they'd be able to make the money to pay for it themselves.
