They are down a cul de sac. If they sack Ole, that will go against everything they said about appointing him......United DNA, period of stabilty, the United way etc. And the replacement will want his own team, players and coaches etc, costing another fortune. If they keep him, abject failure beckons.

The problem is that there's no one to replace him with. Blanc, Allegri would probably be the headline choices? Not worth getting excited by.

If I was Woodward, knowing that top 4 is pretty much out of the question and so is relegation, I'd let Solskjaer carry on as long as possible, because every loss vs. West Ham or other midtable sides makes him look worse than Woodward. Take a run at Pochettino for next season, maybe get a temporary manager in if Ole seriously starts dropping down below 10th by Christmas - but even then better to wait until after January so you don't have to pay out for a soon-to-be-fired manager's choices.

Just listening to the news on the radio and heard "Manchester United have just put out a statement..." and my heart sank. But it was OK as it was something about Thomas Cook rather than them sacking Ole.
