despite being from not very far away, I have next to no knowledge of this area.

Just booked a cottage near Portreath for 4 nights in March. Looking for some must do's.

Already thinking about Minack Theatre via Lands End (obligatory).

Anyone got some tips on places to see and places to eat?

It's been a long time since i went home but the coast there is beautiful so the coast walk is lovely if thats your thing.Yes to the Minack and lands end, sunset there is gorgeous
The sand dunes at perranporth used to be fun rolling down but then i was a kid at the time
I can't remember anything else but the best bet is to ask one of the locals or in the pub
Have a great time, some pics would be nice

You're in the heart of some of the best walking territory the UK can offer. Head north towards Chapel Porth, St Agnes and Perranporth or South towards Godrevy - amazing scenery and cliff-top walking in both directions. The seals nesting wild in Godrevy are stunning - if you are lucky to catch them.

If you are in the Minack Theatre area you could also tie-in the beach and Telegraph Museum @ Porthcurno and also Logan's Rock - all worth a visit.

Lizard point, St.Micheals mount just outside Penzance and Tintagel castle are three good places to take in.
On the way down you could also take in a trip to visit the old Bodmin Jail.
Cornwall is just one of those places you can get in your car, with no real plan of action and see where it takes you. Loads of lovely little coves and villages. Especially right down the bottom. Although steer clear of a village called St.Just (I got 3 points and a £60 fine for speeding through there. Best £60 I've ever spent, scary scary place).

I hope you're staying where we have stayed a few times, http://www.gwelanmor.com/ as its a brilliant site. We all loved
http://www.gwelanmor.com/facilities/wildlife especially hand feeding foxes and handling birds of prey, awesome.

If you've got kids we recommend popping down the coast to Paradise Park where the kids enjoyed themselves for hours on end.

Other than that its all about the beaches.

Live about 5miles from portreath. If it is gwel an mor it's really nice, if your not staying there it's worth going in for a swim n sauna and the food is good. If your into nice little harbours and nice food porthleven is about 10 miles down the road on the south coast. Eden is quite cool. The basset arms in portreath is good for pub grub. Depends what your after really.

Whats the name of the place a shortish drive away where you can pan for gold?

Some great responses, thanks! Keep them coming, will post some pics on here when back!

Any food places that are a must?
In Camborne about 10 mins away, a little place called the Thai in town on cross st, also the Bengal balti on cross st and there's a really nice Italian tucked away on a back street.

Mousehole is good for a visit, and in March you should be able to find spaces to park on the quay. As others have said, the Minack is also well worth a look-see. If you're going to Lands End, park at Sennen Cove and walk around the headland, its well worth the effort, and the beach at Sennen is a cracker.

Love St Helens, ocean fishing, took a scenic flight last time I was there in a little Cessna. Beautiful place

Go to a pub in St Austell called the Blue Anchor (I think). Proper old pub with snugs and outside toilets. Anyone know if it's still open? My favourite pub, haven't been there for about a decade.
