Southampton (A) - Carabao Cup | Post Match Thread

Not sure what to make of last night.

I was thinking perhaps the 4 to 6 week break for the WC is problem. Our players are use to Pep? It takes a good season for most new signings to adjust.

This season banging the middle we lose most of our squad to be coached by inferior managers. I have said before that I think southgate is a bad influence on our players particular Foden.

It's just a thought I'll admit we weren't great before the WC but it could have been on the players minds.

Playing '3' newish signings in one go doesnt work it spreads fear ! The left back very poor, couldnt find a pass !. Phillips very slow and could control a bag of cement. Grealish plays 95% of the time to be fouled. Than wants to fight and forgets about the game.

The left side is a problem the ball doesnt get released to the left midfield/forward quickly enough compared to walker on the right. In fact yesterday it looked like Aka would pass to anyone other than Foden.

I am not pressing the panic button......yet lol

Throw in a world cup and no current prem squad has the capacity to win a treble let alone a quadruple.
Doesn't make up for the disappointing lack of fitness of some and the clear over hype of young players + grealish all apart from Rico yet to put a consistent run of 5+ high quality performances.

Our strength has always been in our squad, a kind of symbiant circle if you will, each player pushing the next one, with only small drop offs in quality when changes are made. But this new crop isn’t of the quality or more importantly the mindset of the players like Jesus Zinchenko and even Sterling, who may of missed a chance or two, but had the balls to get up & miss again :) some look afraid to make a mistake, are playing within themselves and just aren’t ready to step up when called upon. That isn’t a consequence of the World Cup or too many games, or not enough, it’s a mentality. At the minute there’s only Ake Rodri & Stones showing an kind of consistency and that isn’t enough

Players and management straight up the tunnel getting ready to board the flight home while the poor fuckers who went had a 7 hour coach trip back. But in coming weeks pep will be out telling the fans how we need to fill the ground and help the team!!! Well it works both ways appreciate what the fans do for the club every game not just wen we win. An absolute embarrassment that last night had me fuming more than the performance.

If we play like last night against a busier RAGs or Arsenal - we will get destroyed. Shocking last night. Phillips shadowing their players basically making himself unavailable for a pass - Gomez is utter wank and not sure whats wrong with Cancelo -

Peps trying 3 at the back maybe causing us a few problems going forward - Think Foden has forgotten how to run with the ball. I'm not sure about Cole Palmer - he's still young

I think the reason I’ve not shaken this one off yet is because it felt like the fans cared more than the players and boss.

If it’s true they went straight down the tunnel that’s even worse.

Pep has a job on his hands now. He's got a good 7 (being generous) who are madly out of form - disaffected, using the world cup as an excuse, whatever. The job for Pep now is to manage the squad to limit the impact of those underperforming players on the rest of our performances.

Cancelo is currently more trouble than he's worth - his performances are the type that impact on others.

Rodri on the other hand is the one who's standing up to be counted at the moment. We need to use his positive influence to encourage the rest.

Very worried about not creating a single chance for Haaland - he's included in that criticism too
