Southampton (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Oh yeah, "worked perfectly" what... except for the tiny detail of scoring a fking goal man. But who needs goals in football, right? It’s not like we’re fighting for top 4 or anything. Let’s all just clap for the "effort" while we bottle it against a bad relegation side. If that’s your standard for "perfect", no wonder we’re in this mess. But sure, tell everyone to calm down and accept mediocrity - as long as the lads "tried", right? Pathetic.
Perfect as in we dominated the game they put every player in the 18 yeard box and we couldn't score. How do tactics work when you are already 90% in there half?

We needed to put this useless Southampton team away quickly. The obvious solution...play your fastest and most dangerous players from the start. Marmoosh and Doku must be certain starters you would think.

Incredibly Pep played the slowest and out of form players who offer almost nothing in attack. Lewis, McAtee, Bernardo and Foden...absolutely mind boggling!!.

What the hell was he thinking.

To be fair to Pep I think the plan was to have the fullbacks doing the width and then pack the box and get a lucky break. Really hard to play against such a low block - you get a cross in and there are plenty back to clear it but if you shoot then there's plenty back to block it. You pass it around and be patient for an opening then you get accused of being slow and boring.

The big problem is with Foden being out of form and KdB not being KdB any more then we have zero creativity in the team. When we also have to play that compressed then the centre half's need to be creative also so with Stones and Rodri missing and with the form of the other two then this is what happens.

Could have started with Savinho and Doku but then you lose two midfielders around the box and they're just crossing it into a packed area anyway. Or you can go full chaos and get caught in transition and lose one nil.

Could have tweaked a couple of positions with Gvardiol for instance but Kovacic will always be Kovacic and Silva will always be coming deep to collect the ball just to give it back to the defenders. You also need to create space for Haaland to crash into a cross and the cross also need to be whipped in and not floated.

Rico you are a city fan like us but you need to go for your own good and for us.

McAtee...thought he had a higher potential than Palmer but he is pound shop version of Bernie and needs to go to.

Akanji you only play when we are at barebones like Mangala did in 17-18 season.

KDB and Bernie thankyou for your services and best of luck for the future.

And Foden...brother if you had too much money and fame get in to your head in such a young age..always know that this club is supported by middle class section of the society who dream to live the life you do.. so either wake up from your slumber or i see another wasted talent like balotelli

Peps loyalty to certain players is killing us. They need to be taken away from him so he doesn’t have the option to play them.

Midfield is dire and needs at least two players in.

QQ. How many corners did we have today? Every last one of them was really poor. We all know we do not use corners well but it’s a real blind spot. Do we work on them ever or has it always just let Kev float it to the keeper?!

Kev is terrible at taking corners imo. Phil is normally much better though far from on form atm as we all know.

Look to Spain and Ancelloti. The guy is weighed down with trophies but his race is run. Is Pep in the same boat?
One season without winning the league or CL doesn't mean his race is run, lol.

If he's retiring (no idea if he is or isn't) it's cos he's had enough, not cos he can't do it anymore.

Embarrassing match thread and no doubt this thread will be too.

Pep put a team on the field who he thought had enough to beat Southampton, and Southampton got their tactics spot on. We just lacked a little bit of sharpness in the final third. It happens

Ref wasn't up to scratch and let them get away with spoiling tactics all game. The Ramsdale tactical time out was a joke, and Earl was rightly wound up by it. The referee also kept getting in the way of our passing lanes and slowed down our free kicks. He also seemed to be influenced by the crowd.

Absolutely fuming that VAR didn't even look at the penalty shout on O'Riley. Looked nailed on for me.
They’ve conceded 82 goals this season. If they hadn’t played City it would be 81…
