Southampton (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Without inviting a pile-on, my personal feelings are Pep is burnt out and his messaging isn't inspiring total belief from sections of the squad?

To bring Akanji back yesterday was criminal, resulting in the entire back line being changed to afford it.

He compounded it by bringing Foden and McAtee into the starting eleven, losing the width and direct running of Doku and Marmoush.

City have fallen in to the trap which United and Arsenal have done, allowing incredibly successful managers to become bigger than the club.

Our executive are rightly in awe of what Pep has done for this club, but the lines have become blurred and there is zero threat of challenge to his authority because of what he has stored in the bank.

I'm starting to worry that some of the noises from sections of the fanbase remind me of what Liverpool and United fans have defaulted to when they cite previous trophy wins and some sort of defensive mechanism against failure?

The past is the past, means nothing all the records of recent years, if we are heading down a direction which is not the correct one.

There is a lot of pressure on Viana to deliver for Pep, but Pep also has to deliver for him. There has been too many instances of the obvious, certainly for a legendary coach on £20m a year, to have not seen them throughout this campaign.

I really don't expect or hear City to be signing any world class talents this summer, certainly not the ones which are needed to elevate us back to the quality we have previously displayed.

I don't know what the answer is, but we are merely kicking the can down the road if we think everything is going to be solved by Pep simply being here for another two years?
I couldn't give a shit if pep gets us relegated the man's a living legend. Also not arsed about being a fan like Liverpool or United where we're counting trophies and only in it for the glory. Peps entitled to get it wrong sometimes. The guys a serial winner Hel come back... Even this season could win a trophy or two still!

You have no idea. Phil isn't a robot. I don't know what job you do, but if you were struggling with a condition your performance would be affected. Despicable comment about his mother. Not sure why you feel the need to make such a crass comment.
I work with slags so I’m pretty well up on how it affects people

It might have been the plan but Pep decided he would fuck everything up and sign a new contract and then follow that up with Txiki spunking £200m on signings that don’t play.

The board too scared to ask what the fuck is going on cause they have to have Pep in charge when the 115 fallout really turns nuclear in the next few weeks.

Your username checks out.

Akanji played to give him minutes after a long injury absence. Likewise Haaland. That's important for the games to come.
The club is far more important than two players, that's the issue, loyalty to individuals and not what is best for the club.

And the same applies to many in our fan base, seem to side with players more than they do the club, weird.

Who cares about Arsenal. What have they won recently compared to us?

Yes we've had far worse and you're acting like we're being relegated because we drew a game of football.
I don't give a monkeys about Arsenal. The point I was making - that you have missed is that they are getting on with their recruitment for next season. Zubimendi is a good player and will strengthen them.

Meanwhile at City - see the wind blowing over a forlorn grave yard that is our recruitment policy.

And how do you know I'm acting like we have been relegated??? I was there on 14 May 1983 - were you? .If you had seen the state I- and many other thousands were in that day ( and all summer) you would know my reaction yesterday was simply frustration.

I agree with wasting the money on signings that don’t play.

But why would Pep need to be in charge for the 115 verdict?

Viana signings, certainly Khusanov, Reis and Bah.

Certainly agree it would be a dangerous game not having Pep around while the 115 case dragged on.

Perversely, him being here, probably does bring an outside pressure on the Premier League and their lawyers.

Same as Ferguson's influence extended beyond the pitch.

We have become like the last years of Wenger's Arsenal, trying to score the perfect goal.

Watch our training videos, we have players pinging balls into the top corners from 25 yards with almost notulant ease, where is that ability on a match day?

And don't start me on set pieces, FFS they are a disgrace and if I see Foden and KDB taking a free kick, talking under their hands when it's quiet obvious that KDB takes it, hence wasting the presence of Foden inside or just outside the box.

We are playing one game a week, what preparation are we actually doing?
To be honest, all players from premier league are binging top corners in training and its another story in games. Foden shouldnt be starting any of the games going forward, he gives absolutely nothing atm.

Thing is do we want Dias Akanji and Gvardiol to start next week? Feeling he will play Gvardiol left back Dias Akanji and nunes at the back then gundo silva Kdb Kovacic he probably stick Grealish in because every big game he starts

If you couldn't give a shit about being relegated, then you've probably not experienced too many?

And if you have, then it's a bizarre take.

Some people may get too invested in personalities (not saying you have) and not the well-being of the actual club.

Plenty are already citing the Treble, Four in a Row and 100 points, as some sort of excuse for not winning anything else in the future.

Just as United and Arsenal fans do.

Yet we've beaten them twice.
So you can quote that, but ignore the fact that against the 2nd worst team in PL history, we've only scored once in 180+ minutes (they hit the bar against us, too)?

Double standards, perhaps?

Bag of wank.
It’s safe to say though that that won’t be the starting line up on Saturday.
My line up:

Ederson
Nunes
Gvardiol
Dias
O’Reilly
Grealish
Kova
KDB
Foden
Marmoush
Haaland

Subs
Ortega
Akanji
Bobb
Doku
Gundogan
Gonzales
Echeveri

Up the Blues!

No double standards. I was just responding to someone who seemed to imply that we should be playing like Newcastle.

@ Tolmies Hairdoo. You quote The pisscans influence. As a fanbase you can see it here already. I live and thank Pep for whathehas done but it's the next week that matters . We are treading water and we had rhe chance for 2nd , we may still get it. We had the chance to humiliate the rags last Yr at Wembley. Not ont fucking wznker in that team cared. They couldn't wait 1 week to celebrate. For me we need drastic action
