Southampton (A) - Post Match Thread

We were still asleep first 30 mins, too many sub par performances.

We got the full treatment by those lucky bastards and the ref team,
and that will help us to pull the title over the line later on.

Hasenhuttl said you can't survive with 1 man down vs City and he has seen Laporte's thigh, there maybe was a touch. He doesn't know if it's red...

He also said Grealish was waiting for Romeu in the tunnel post match to sort some things out but it's nothing for the camera... All fine now.

It's just shite to go 1 down early vs such a team of bastards who want to hurt us physically AND get support by the refs in full force.

I think we fought back in great manner but were shite and unlucky in front of goal today.

Waiting for Palace tomorrow, let's see if there is the same level of decisions.

Finally somebody else sees this shit! The same teams and the same tactics is causing us problems, it's Pep's weak point right now.
9/10 we would have won that game with the chances we had. The reason we didn’t was due to sloppy play for their goal and wastefulness in front of goal on our part. We had them on the ropes for 20 mins of the second half but couldn’t finish them off. Nothing to do with them.

I have mixed feelings about this game:

1) I think we were the better team, the stats back that up.

2) Had they not scored that worldie from nowhere. Or Sterling scored that sitter put on a plate to him by Foden, we probably win regardless of anything else that happened in the same game.

3) The foul on De Bruyne was on the line, therefore it was a penalty. It was clear as day that's what the VAR was looking for, rolling it back and forth, to find a frame that justified not giving it. It was the opposite of what Alan Smith said, if you have to do that then you obviously know it was on the line.

4) That was a red card but they bottled it because of the entitled home crowd, moaning about everything they were... but so what, man up and make the right call.

5) There was a clear foul on Foden on the edge of the box too that was ignored. KDB scoring territory. Quite a few fouls on City waved on from less promising positions but still annoying.

On the other hand.

1) We started flat, misplacing passes. That gave them encouragement that the counter was on, from early on in first half.

2) I can't really fault the defence much for the goal personally. Laporte seemed in a good position to block it and nobody expected that player to try an outside of the foot curler. Ederson left a bit too big of a space to aim at but it's the same deal, only from an outside of the foot shot curling the other way. Might be better just to tip your hat to the player.

3) We didn't work the keeper enough or open them up enough.

4) Finishing was poor.

5) As bad as the ref and var were, we are City and we know we can't rely on them having a good/fair game for us.

Overall, I think we genuinely deserved to win despite not being at our best. We probably were a bit lucky to get a point in the reverse fixture if I remember rightly, so that evens that out.

On the plus side, that Ref and VAR performance, should be pointed out to all the wallies on twatter, convincing themselves City have had help from them. I find that so ironic, that these people think when City finally see a bit of balance on those calls, during a one off season, they can't handle it and think it's "corruption"(so backwards it's not even funny). They were terrible for us today. The only surprise was the amount of stoppage time we received seemed fair. I was waiting for the commentator to say "2 mins of stoppage time to hold on for a draw", shame we didn't make anything of it.

Not for me, looks far far worse in slow motion, Real time shows it for what it is and the players didn't seem to think it was that bad either which is generally a decent indicator. He's gone for the ball and was just late, there's very little danger in that. Can't be sending people off for things like that imo.

Oh I know, no complaints with our form, you'd of course take that every day of the week, I'm just commenting on today as an individual game, and it's one we should not be dropping points in. I know it's inevitably going to happen but it doesn't make it any less disappointing. Liverpool certainly wouldn't have been watching expecting us not to win, it's a big bonus for them. Let's hope palace against all odds can even it out tomorrow, in a weird way us both drawing would damage their moral far more than us both winning.
Stones got a VAR red last season for the same. And every pundit thought that was a red.

Disagree mate, the two week break will have no bearing on how we restart, it seems to hinder us these long gaps in between games
We shall see pal. What I'll say is, Its not just 2 weeks without a game, but they're in training every day, peps giving them all a week off if reports are to be believed bar the ones on international duty, that in theory should give them all a nice break to recuperate and come back ready for a final push to retain our title. If you look at summer breaks and players are only getting3 weeks off then during tournament years, it's a third of their summer break.

Yeah and I disagreed with that then, I've remained consistent in my view. Right or wrong by the law, nobody bloody knows anymore, I just don't think that should be a sending off offence, many others flip flop in their opinions depending on whether it's for or against us.
