Southampton (A) - Post Match Thread

Not really "a victim mentality" just my observation of how we are refereed (and var'd), I've no doubt that a "red shirt" team would have been "helped" today with a red card for the tackle/assault on Laporte after a var review (and quite probably given a penalty for the one on KdB).

Incidentally at the time I didn't think it (Laporte) was any more than a yellow, but after seeing 30 replays, there is only one conclusion, it's a clear and obvious error, and that is the point of all these replays, to get the decision correct.

Before var I wouldn't have been bothered by it, but they brought var in, despite the fact I didn't (andstill don't) want it. So if we are going to have it, then use it for what its intended for.
Again the examples given have been ignored. I don’t like var for many reasons. There’s occasions I feel like other fans my teams reffed differently. I feel this season has been the best in terms of some actually going for us, so my originally point being if they was trying to stop us then none would go our way

Depends on what story they want to tell.

image the headline “liverpool claw back impossible gap to pip City on the last weekend of the season “

got to have a big gap in the first place, whilst maintaining some level of interest so that bookies dont pay out too early
Farfetched isn’t it. Give city a huge lead and then try stop them. Far too risky

I'm not blaming them for the result but I thought some of their officiating was downright bizarre today.

So we were on the attack in the last 10minutes today and the referee stops play because the Southampton player is holding his leg. Yet 5 minutes earlier Jesus goes down and he just lets them attack against our 10 men. I think play on is the right call if it isn't a head injury, so why are we judged by different standards?

Next there's the 'yellow' card foul on Laporte, you'd have to be blind not to see it as red. Yet the referee and VAR miss it?

Then there's the blatant time wasting that continues to go unpunished against us. What will it take for referees to start clamping down on this? We're being continuously robbed of game time in matches this season by opponents refusing to put the ball in play. Goal kicks, free kicks, throw ins and feinging injuries being the main offenders?

I agree it seems to have been slightly less bent this season (so far), but they can't possibly not give us anything, but things are often given when it won't affect the result. Yourself reflected on yellow cards for time wasting usually being 88th minute against us, when it often start in the first 5 minutes.

Not sure it affected the result today either, the penalty we didn't get (I think sky said it wasn't given because KdB was outside the box - he was for the first tackle, but the second was inside, and he didn't touch the ball only KdB's leg), we'd have probably missed, and playing 10 men often doesn't help us either.
