Southampton (H) | PL | Post-Match Thread

As they say, the sign of champions is finding a way to win when you aren’t at your best, and we did that today.

Three points, top of the table, and hopefully Liverpool and Arsenal draw so we stay there.

I actually feel we have moved that bar and the scousers and tarquins have picked up a lot of points when playing poorly but over the season lost out due to us being a cut above.

Our margin for error has been very small with Wolves (A), Southampton (H) Fulham (H), Newcastle (A) and Arsenal (A).

11 points out of 15 is a great return, but very easily could have been less.

This doesn't apply when you play genuinely average against a team who willost likely go down

Rarely look at the full table but just did and how have Southampton only got one point? If we’d gone in at the break all square today, I don’t think many would have begrudged them.

You should look at the full table much more...there's a red team in a rather amusing position down there.

There’s a mistake in this post, I’m trying to work it out, gimme a minute :)

Home now. Phew, that was another tough watch and given Arsenal and Liverpool meet tomorrow a huge three points. It keeps the pressure on and one or both of them are going to drop points. Happy days.
We desperately need some bodies back and not to.pick up anymore injuries.
Hopefully once we do our performances start flowing better. I was amazed how comfortably Southampton kept possession, at times we just couldn't get the ball.
Still, top of the league in spite of our injuries and not hitting anything like top form yet.

I would, but mainly because of our woeful finishing.

For me they got what their play deserved, zero goals, and zero points. Started well, then gave up trying, and just played anti football, until they brought on the big lump at the end.

I’ve not had time to read the thread yet so apologies if this has already been said.
Southampton gave us one of the hardest games in a while.
They played well and as a team. We didn’t, in fact I felt that was the most disjointed I’ve seen us for a long time.
I’m always reluctant to criticise Pep but we needed subs much earlier than we got them and although I felt he was making a difference John Stones needed to be on earlier. He might have pulled them together more. I’m not just saying that because it is JB but there was very little cohesive team work I felt.
I’m not sure that our Captain showed himself at all.
As one of my neighbours said as he left (at full time) we’ve maintained our place but we’ve not played our best this season yet.

I’ve not done the fought to the end because I’m so tired and hungry. I’ll do it tomorrow. :-)

I said the same about wolves last week, these lower sides are giving us seriously tough games. But we’re not making it easy for ourselves either - 22 attempts this week, 22 attempts last week. Finishing needs to be better.

Top of the league, 23 out of 27 points.
Unbeaten.
All while being way off our best. It feels like every game is the biggest at the minute, just want to get through it with a win not arsed about the performance. Let’s try get to the next international break top of the league and hopefully the injury situation will improve.
The next game won't feel like the biggest

Scoring 1 from 22 efforts isn't progression, it's just not good enough, and a moment away from only having one point not three.
Stones goal is a moment away from having 1 point not 3, his goal against arsenal is a moment from having 1 point nt 0 points, football is moments
