Be interested to see if Guardiola brings Rodri back into the starting eleven today. The speed at which we have started and the movement in midfield have been incredibly intense in the last couple of games, and while Rodri brings more height, muscle, and defensive stability, that comes at a price in terms of said speed and fluidity. The fact that Gundogan went the distance in midweek suggests he might be the one rested. Spoilt for choice.

It struck me forcibly watching the Kopenhagen match how fluid this team is, what a Rolls-Royce of a team it is. People are always on the move, offering the man with the ball one, two, sometimes three options. On the rare occasions when we lose it there are always a couple of players racing back to win it back within a matter of seconds.
I think this team really is comparable now to Pep's great Barca team, with the obvious one exception. All it needs to do to be generally recognised as such it to win the CL one or two times. I won't care if it never wins it, but that's a personal stance only.

It’s always difficult to assess over a couple of games, especially as that lot were obliged to be more open, being a derby, and Copenhagen hadn’t faced us in a long time. Southampton should offer a different test, particularly if they defend as doughtily as they did in last season’s league encounters. Grealish and Cancelo are particularly interesting to watch, at present, as they are popping up further infield from their respective sides, which is clearly a ploy to shift the opposition more to the middle and then we exploit the space on the flanks

I really couldn’t care less about trophies, though I understand why people and especially players do. I’m more attracted to watching football played at the highest technical and physical levels, and the last couple of games have seen us approaching our highest levels yet.

0-0 today…
