Southampton (N) | FAC | Post Match Thread

we avoided an embarrassing shock result according to the BBC.
I'm not sure about Arsenal winning all their games though. They were pretty poor yesterday and still have the AM games to go. Think there is at least one or two twists left. A couple of months ago I could not conceive of a treble so am just enjoying where we are just now and the fact that we have found our best team and have played some very good football. What will be will be.
We did avoid an embarrassing result because Southampton scored a late stunner, but we are one of very few teams who could take that on the chin and go on to win.

We are going to our 4th successive FA Cup Final, and this is no fluke. This is huge for City. For the older City generation, it was our ambition to make one FA Cup Final in our lifetime. Now it's 4 in a row!

Lower safe standing area never again on that side of the staduim

A great view spoiled by the sun especially in the first half.
Second half a lot better but did they close part of the roof second half.
Never noticed in the first.

I thought second half we played pretty well but if we actually took shots instead of trying to walk it in we wouldnt have needed to fire up the comeback machine.

First half was poor which was to be expected with the changes and starting 11 being rusty.

Second half was more cutting edge against a team that had 11 players in their own box and no intention of playing football. But main plus was going a goal down and getting back, albeit with a bit of luck. How many teams would turn it around like that when its been 1 way traffic and it looks like its not your day??

Saints fans pretty loud and happy with their performance coming out of wembley which i guess is ok, they defended well just had a counter attacking game plan.

Sorry Marv. Embarrassing is going out to Halifax. It’s not being beaten by the form Championship team who are at least as good as half a dozen premier league teams just now. I wouldn’t have said a loss to them was embarrassing in the slightest. Disappointing yes but hardly embarrassing.

Well that was a long day all round, out the house at 8am back at half 1 in the morning. I though we played ok and generally dominated them for large periods. A couple of our players were quite disappointing at times though, luckily the subs gave us a lift when we needed it. We got the win in the end with a great strike.

Yep

Many didn't like the starting line-up. me included hahah, but we got the job done in the end and a 4th final in a row
We are all blessed to be witnessing all of this history in the making
Did anyone like the starting line up?

The effect on me was rather like the Porto moment when Pep had to choose between Rodri and Fernandinho and choose neither.

Exactly. Best of luck.

Too many players who haven’t played got to start and that was the problem, no match fitness.

Under Pep City have unprecedented achievements. This season we are hoping for our second domestic treble - our third actual treble - and yet our manager is criticised for fielding "second elevens", especially yesterday. Leaving aside the fact that the treble is still very much on and that one of our unprecedented achievements is reaching our fourth successive FA cup final no manager, not even Pep, can guarantee success, but what he is much better at than anyone else is managing risk and this is what he did yesterday. Many supporters were uneasy about the eleven selected yesterday and we all felt rather uncomfortable when Southampton scored, but in the end Pep had judged it well. We hope his judgement is as sound in the coming weeks because this stage of the season involves consistent risk management.

Risk management. As he says, when we win he is a genius. Lose and it’s on him. Every sub made a big difference yesterday. It was like a chess master in the end game. Of his starting eleven only three really underperformed and that was a good return on the risks he took. Will we ever see the like again?

Pep believes in his system and thinks the squad players are good enough and can win any game, even a semi-final at Wembley. Not showing respect to a Championship club in their biggest game since 1976 was risky

Look, we won the game and Pep will say it was the right call for the title run-in and who are we to judge him.

The one thing I don't like about it is players not having game time or the legs, It shows when players like Marmoush and Foden struggle to find any sort of form and then get slated.

Phil has played too much football and not had enough rest / break from it, since he was 17.

He desperately needs the summer off to refresh himself. He should go fishing with his dad for 6-8 weeks and forget about football.

This 100%

so not just pep loads of managers get it wrong as you say. what did he get wrong ? run first eleven into ground watch doku at end he was bent double while playes clapping fans and he had great 20 or so minutes but by sounds you want him to do that week in week out he freshed it up and if took few chances in first half pep wouldve been genius plus loads of other teams wouldve been in semi final
No, he should rotate, not change virtually the whole team, including starting 3 who are not fully fit......we got out of jail, with a lucky deflection.

We gave fringe players more game time, which in turn gave a boost to those players... Gonzalez especially. for their inputs. It also gave pep some more players to con sider in the run in - Stones, Kovacic etc all played well, and it keeps them on their toes should they be needed - That was a very hard win in the end.

And we won at the same time, are in another final.... I'd say thats how success happens at the end of the season.

What did people think of the saints fans?
Given they had more fans present and was banging on about it being such a big occasion, I was expecting more tbh.
They are generally as boring as fuck......and give a whole new meaning to fickle! At the start of the season none of them had any interest in football......roll on to now, and they think they're the most loyal in the world. Losing yesterday, would have been unbearable for weeks.

I get what you're saying, but nothing will ever come close to Porto. The wtf look on every Blues face in that stadium said it all.

That being said, the no fucks given party we had that night was the stuff of legends.
