Southampton Post Match Thread

Thought we really missed Stones tonight, he makes such a difference to both our defence and our attack in terms of how we get the opposition to lose their shape and create the space.

It's one of the most pleasing things for me. The amount of criticism that Sterling and Stones received (undeservedly) last season already made me want them to succeed even more. This season, they've been our two best players. Love them both and I think Guardiola has been absolutely perfect for them.

Oh Raheem Sterling he is so wonderful
Incredible
Oh he’s beautiful magical
When he runs down the wing he is fast as lightning
He’s frightening
And he makes all the Blues sing
Der der der der der der der der der der der der der der der der der der der der der der der der der der der

Few more than that I thought, anyway who gives a fuck, never understood leaving early and never will.

We shouldn't castigate those who have to fight traffic and get up early for jobs.

But I only get out every year or so, and I savor every last second of just getting to be in my adopted city, let alone with my beloved club. The Etihad is like a cathedral for us, atmosphere or no. I'd hope those lucky enough to see City weekly understand that they seem very fortunate to those of us for whom it's a very expensive pilgrimage.

I guess I'm glad that today I stayed in my pub here in NorCal til the last but honestly couldn't ever see myself leaving it early under any circumstance.

Fantastic 3 points . We looked lethargic for long periods and the zip we had early season seems to have disappeared lately. Hopefully it returns, starting Sunday. Gundogan isn't a starter for me. Slows us down and we look a different side when he plays. Jesus wide another waste for me. Theres a great team spirit at city, as evident by the scenes at the end and in the dressing room after. that should stand us in good stead going forward.

Never in doubt for me. I had a feeling we'd get one more chance and if it fell to Raz after his disallowed goal(which was a fecking peach) he'd put it away.

The finish however blew me away. We're watching a player evolve here.

On the downside for me is there's a pattern emerging with Gundogan. We just look shite with him in there. Every time he's played this season he's slowed us down to an ineffective mess. Southampton did a good job of nullifying our wide play which meant a few players had it upon them to take the space they were giving. Gundogan and Walker were f**king awful considering it was there for them to take all night. Otamendi did a better job stepping into those areas than both of them.

On the whole it's a bloody huge result. A win against for Arsenal against the rags and a win for us against West Ham and it'll be game over before we even play them in the derby.

Never felt more like singing the blues...

Just got in and skim read some stuff, Gundogan & De Bruyne to me are explosive passers utilising space.
Gundogan has suffered playing for us thus far this season because he's played when we've not had our wide thrust players.

For me between Pep & the squad we need to find a more effective way of playing without Sané & Sterking wide.

I know the option was Mendy but that's gone.

Perhaps an evolution of Booby's and Manuel's 442/4222?

Great win and there was certainly no shortage of desire or bravery from the players.
