Southampton Thread - 2022/23 | Nathan Jones sacked (Pg 6)

I never thought he was that bad but they're obviously struggling at the moment.

Could be their year to finally drop. Chelsea pinched their chief scout too.

At least they've got plenty of time to get the next appointment right.

I agree pal.I have no doubt he'll go on to manage a bigger club than Southampton (no disrespect to them)

I never understand when clubs like Southampton sack the manager so early in the season when 2 wins puts them 10th in the league ? What do they want, top 4 or top 6

Southampton, have done a fantastic job over the years of building a young squad only to let teams like Liverpool and others take the best players off them, the manager can only keep doing it for so long before it's the blame game and gets the sack

It was always feast or famine under old Ralph - they had some good performances and wins but boy they could put in a stinker when they wanted to.

All in all I am not sure what a club like Southampton expects - they have PL income so aren't skint but they don't have the off field reach to generate stacks of further income which means they have to cut their cloth accordingly in the transfer markets. They have no European football to attract players or a manager for that matter. As you say they are within reach of mid table which were they to finish there is a good return for them.

They now run the risk of losing some more decent players in January - Ward-Prowse will be high on some lists - and will they attract a good standard of manager?

Talking to my Saints colleagues they’re generally surprised he’s lasted this long. Nice guy - probably how Klipperty imagines himself - but not getting any sort of tune out of the side for the last 18 months at least.

River Plate manager Marcelo Gallardo and Luton’s Nathan Jones seems to be high on the fans’ wish list. I’ve suggested that Slippy or Ole are in the frame, but they don’t seem enthusiastic for some reason.

Would love to see Vinnie come in for no other reason than Southampton often rent a big house down the road from me for new arrivals with families. I reckon I’d have a week or two before he got the injunction sorted.

I'm amazed that this was the straw that broke the camel's back of all things.

They're being linked with Dyche, btw.
