Southport attacker pleads guilty to murdering three girls | Sentenced to 52 years in prison

I don’t know who should shoulder the blame other than himself to be honest. Amazon seems to have taken the flack over the knife situation and as politicians can never say, we cannot prevent something, a bit like the police who put extra patrols on after a crime, they have to be seen to act . However if somebody as evil as this is determined to get hold of a knife he will either take it from home, somebody else’s home or walk in a shop and nick one then make a run for it. You can throw as much money on re education or re training as you like but will it make any difference if someone is determined to go out and kill someone. The tragedy is the signs appeared to be there, be it the school, the parents, neighbours, or authority but no action was taken.

Nobody forces them to carry a knife, consequences should be gradually ramped up until the problem stops.
It wouldn’t stop the problem.

You’d simply cause more problems.

How many young people do you want to incarcerate?

Theft carries 7 years, it’s prolific.

Burglary 14 years.

Possession of cocaine 7…..that’s everywhere.

You’d be locking up thousands of mostly poor troubled kids…forever… then people would moan about their taxes having to pay for it…then want a referendum on killing them because hey what’s the point…it’s a very slippery slope.

The laws exist already. But you can’t solve it by simply locking people up. You have to address the reasons.

I think that would just result in kids carrying other weapons around instead. There should be harsher punishment, but more needs to be done in pretty much every area of our lives. Times are changing, but everyone's still stuck in a loop arguing about the same stuff we've been arguing about for decades. Nobody's budging. I'm tired of it.

On your last sentence, I completely agree but something like this happening again is at least potentially preventable. If you take someone like Lucy Letby, there were no signs at all, I have absolutely no idea how we prevent someone similar from doing the same thing. In this case, he literally told people the way he was thinking and tried to seek help. Not only that, he was referred three times by others.

That’s not apportioning blame but if we are really wanting to stop something like this from happening again, we’ve got to make sure any of those agencies have as much support as possible to engage. It can’t be disregard some because they’re not seen as as big a threat as others.

I have to say it, that’s why some of the political responses to it I’ve found absolutely abhorrent.

You are saying here that those carrying knives are the victims. We have had decades of excuses like yours and suggestions that thousands would end up in jail. You have no evidence to claim that. The basis of testing the 'market' works in every situation it's used in. I.e the work dries up when you eventually quote too high, goods and services become uncompetitive. Gradually increasing the tariff handed down will eventually be a step too far for those carrying knives.

You’d be incarcerating thousands of kids for life….
And? You do it to a few and the rest will get the message, what's your answer? It is completely out of control do you think they should use the knife or gun before they get a sentence that puts them away for a long time because they are ' Kids'
