As I cycle to work everyday I find the whole topic horrible and allowed myself to get sucked into another attention seeking thread.

*shakes head*

I am starting to like you but please tell me you don't ride on the pavement.

No.

Live and let live for the cycling fraternity, I say.
Anyone riding on pavements, however, should be immediately garrotted.

There are some right sad arses on here. Im not a cyclist but I dont think it clever to splash them.

Seems like something a bully would do.
Who, other than the op says they do?

Ive been driving 6 years and done 52,000 miles ... i cant recall one incident ive ever had where a cyclist has bothered me

Cyclists are allowed to ride on the pavement if they do it with a sense of superiority and smugness which I always do.

Check the Highway Code if you don't believe me.

It's there right next to the bit which says motorists are allowed to park on the pavement or on yellow lines if they just have to nip into a shop for 10 minutes so long as they put their hazard lights on.

ooo that a well. I hate that, especially when parents with push chairs have to go on the road to get past.

Selfish gits the lot of them.

I love it when cyclists come cycling up to me expecting me to step off the pavement. They tend to come of worse.

More than 1,000 people have signed her petition calling for action against anyone cycling dangerously and demanding more signs

because signs work people!

The accident happened just yards from No Cycling signs.

Two can play those games.

A woman saved from deportation by a high-profile campaign has been jailed for ten months after killing a child while driving without a licence.

Four-year-old Caitlan Fitzhugh, of Coronation Street, Openshaw, was walking hand-in-hand on the pavement with her mum Stacey Strutt when she was hit by a Ford Transit van which mounted the kerb.

The van careered into the youngster after being hit by a Ford Focus driven by heavily pregnant Eucharia Jakpa, who had no licence.

Jakpa, who along with her then unborn baby were unhurt, had only taken a driving theory test at the time of the accident but had been driving around unsupervised.

Her car had 'L' plates on at the time of the smash.

At Manchester Crown Court, the 40-year-old of Kenyon Street, Gorton, was jailed for ten months after admitting causing death by careless driving and banned from driving for five years.

Has anybody actually suggested that driving without a license is acceptable? Anywhere? Really?

My point is people are going daft over cyclist when the real problem is nutters driving cars. There are far far more people killed and injured by drivers, i'm guessing on the scale of hundreds to one more, than they are by cyclist.

Also why do you think so many cyclist go on the pavement in the first place. The roads are not safe to many people can't drive or if they can they completely disobey the rules of the road. I'm a driver I see it all the time, people speeding around like fuck doing whatever they feel like and completely ignoring the rules of the road.

I like the super confident lycra clad ones, who while chatting, ride two abreast down a country lane with a queue of cars behind them cos there is no room to pass.

What the fuck do these people expect!

Possibly because it is a thread involving cyclists? If there was a thread involving selfish and stupid drivers we would probably go daft in there as well.

The roads are not safe to many people

Although I understand your logic would you apply it to motorbikes? Lots of them are killed by stupid drivers as well but I doubt you would condone any riding on the pavements.

and completely ignoring the rules of the road.

And if they are caught they should be prosecuted.

Kids (under 16) are allowed on the pavements with bikes, adults are not. There are ways to keep safe on a bike on a road but they look "uncool" and helmets mess peoples hair up so they don't bother.

Nothing move than very selfish people.

I completed the last Maracycle from belfast to dublin around 1990. Coming through Newry a motorist ploughed into a line of cyclists waiting at a traffic light killing 3 of them. Ironically this was the last year for the maracycle due to safety reasons. In my experience cycling, drivers believe they have a god given right to ignore the safety of cyclists on the road. I dont buy into this bullshit about slowing traffic down. The vast majority of cyclists are responsible and considerate when it comes to other traffic and will signal to a motorist that its ok to pass. They do this for their own safety as well as others on the road. They have as much right to be on the road as anyone yet are constantly treated as an 'inconvenience'.
