I think it is important to look at the FACTS behind any situation before being bamboozled by "what if" scenarios.

It would seem that this transfer window is being driven by two situations

1) Valencia are BROKE and need to sell players, David Villa is the Jewel in the Crown, if they can get the maximum amount for him it would help them to avoid selling the likes of Silva and Albiol meaning they keep the semblance of a successful team. Villa would like to stay in Spain but Chelsea and Man City are willing to pay more money for him than Barcelona or Real Madrid.

2) Samuel Eto'o is in the last year of his contract at Barca. He has been offered a new contract by Laporta but he doesnt think it reflects his worth. Eto'o has issued wage demands way ahead of what any team wants to pay if it includes a transfer fee. Barca cannot afford to let Eto'o go into the last year of his contract and leave on a free transfer next season. Although Laporta wants him to stay he is not willing to meet Eto'o's wage demands, so the original contract remains on the table.

I am not an ITK but I am convinced that Villa and Eto'o will not start next season with their current clubs.I believe that anything is possible when you consider that we are the only club in the world with almost limitless cash resources to make things happen. I would disregard any political posturing by the players or the clubs involved.

Keep your eyes on the money with Valencia and Eto'os contract with Barca, you cant go far wrong. The deals that solve these conundrums will determine where the players end up.
 
I think life would be made a bit simpler if people stopped assuming that players in general are anymore ITK than we are. I speak regularly to a senior squad member and he doesn't have a clue who might be coming or going.

There are journalists who know lots of agents, and they pick up on rumours very quickly. This is why the press link us to everybody and their dog on a regular basis. They aren't simply making it up, just reporting what they've been told, which often has stemmed from a genuine enquiry.

I don't think anybody is really ITK about future transfers. People hear things all the time. In my opinion what sets a few posters apart is that they don't report every bit of gossip that comes their way, only the more definite leads i.e those which have gone past the 'enquiry stage'. These leads are quickly picked up by journalists, so you tend to get the story breaking in the media very soon after it's been mentioned on here.

I have no doubt that City would love to sign the likes of Messi and Eto and it would be no surprise at all to hear they have enquired about those players and others of that standard. Chances are we will sign a big name. There's no special ITK information needed to predict that.
It amazes me frankly that time after time people are sucked in by that exact prediction.

City will sign a big name player soon

So what? Tell me something everybody else doesn't already know.

Agreed, I know one poster on here with a direct and very strong link (not just an aquaintance) to a 1st team player and short of transfer targets sharing same agents, being close friends etc.. players know little more than better informed gossip when it comes to transfer matters.
